Five hargreeves is such a painful character to love because no matter the funny scenes, the badass fights and the cute fanart, you know that at his core his story is about always being unable to save those he loves. no amount of cute fanart can cover the fact that he spent his entire life alone and now, standing side by side with his siblings, nothing has changed. no matter how you obsess over him or write fics about him or watch the show over and over, that fact is never going to change. his character, at the center, is about loneliness and the lengths one will go through to avoid it---only thing is, he never truly succeeds.

five is a character who spends his entire life reaching for those around him and always being an inch short, a minute too late, and no one ever sees his hand, turned away in those moments and unwilling to see the desperation on his face when he fails to grab them in time

ironic, for a character who is so suited to miraculous saves. who preserves the lives of his siblings so often, who appears to succeed in his goal, who's power in anyone's hands would be a tool of re-dos, a way to erase mistakes.

for a man who harnesses time to his will, its never on his side

i finished our violent ends and now i’m wondering what most people think of tyler. i mean i obviously didn’t respect all of his choices but i liked the guy. he was so so loyal and it was clear that he cared about his family, and he cared about juliette too. i was super shocked when he died and it def made me cry. the poor guy deserved a better life where he could devote all that loyalty to a cause with less bloodshed (and less dueling, hopefully)

nah cuz this might be an unpopular opinion but people keep comparing him to dimitri saying they are both the worst characters and i just think dimitri is SO MUCH WORSE like yeah tyler was really crazy but he did all those things thinking about his family. in the contrary dimitri did all those fucked up shit thinking about himself

i totally agree i feel like tyler and dimitri are like two different ends of a spectrum. someone doing bad things for good reasons and someone doing bad things for bad reasons

Severin reminds me so much of Kaz and Zofia of Wylan

The Gilded Wolves felt too much of a Six of Crows ripoff. Severin was Kaz 2.0. Laila was Inej 2.0. AND there was a romance between these two. The other characters also have traits of Nina, Jesper, and Wylan.

I might have liked TGW a lot. I mean, come on. Who doesn't love a good heist? But I didn't because the crew going on the heist didn't feel original.

Severin will never be even a mere fraction of what Kaz Fucking Brekker was.

i respect your opinion but i disagree

i definitely saw the similarities between the books, and it is the reason i read it in the first place. yes, there are some very similar things, maybe even questionably similar, but i still don’t think of it as a ripoff. i loved both books separately.

anyway, what’s so wrong with a book that’s similar to a book you like? it’s just more or something you’ll likely enjoy

Recently, ive been rewatching a show, and there is multiple episodes that bring up the trolley problem, and it made me think of how Kaz is Literally that.

Think about it-

Save one person, or save five?

Save Kaz and he grows up a farm boy. He never goes to ketterdam. He ends up marrying a nice young woman and he goes about his life peacefully. His brother and father are alive. His life is good, if a little dull.

Save Kaz, and Inej is stuck in the managerie, stuck in an indenture she'll never pay off.

Save Kaz and Jesper is unable to pay off his debt. His Da loses the farm. His life falls apart.

Save Kaz and Wylan is either killed by his father or stuck working in a tannery, sick from the fumes and stuck in a dead end job.

Save Kaz and Nina is still working to pay Matthias's bail.

Save Kaz and Matthias never leaves hell gate.
