Dynamight leaned against one of the lockers, arms folded and looking every bit like some bodyguard, in the sewer area where Ladybug stood on the platform not far in front of him, having summoned the transformed Miraculous holders for a somewhat unprompted meeting. Crimson eyes roamed the room, flitting from person to person on the opposite side of the platform, evaluating them as he went, with a certain Cat Miraculous sitting on his metal neck piece, eagerly chewing through a large chunk of Camembert cheese.
They'd talked about it beforehand, and this was the day he was actually supposed to be introduced to the other Miraculous holders as Plagg's holder; something he'd understood as exceptionally dangerous because then he'd have as much of a target on his back as Ladybug did -- not like he didn't already, being as close to her as he was, but this added an entirely new layer to it. They'd both agreed that getting introduced as his alter ego would be much better than his civilian identity for this.
"Hey, Ladybug, what's he doing here?" he heard one of them ask from nearby, looking up at the person that had asked before looking over at Ladybug for her answer.
ââThe decision to change the Cat Miraculous holder was a difficult one to make. Master Fu had selected the two of them specifically, but⊠he wasn't here anymore. He was no longer the Guardian of the Miraculous. She was. He passed the mantle onto her, not really having a choice in the matter.
ââThe weight of it fell heavy on her shoulders, sometimes not knowing who to turn to in her time of need, especially when it came to decisions like this. With Hawk Moth defeated and revealed, the previous Cat Miraculous holder, Adrien Agreste, had given his Miraculous back. Who could blame him⊠his own father turned out to be the villain, who had been tormenting them this entire time, for years on end. There was no ill-will towards Adrien and his decision, and Marinette will be the only person to know of his identity⊠but it broke her heart, in a way. The reveal, the return of his ring, how sad he seemed⊠she wanted to break down and cry. Once she got home, she did, with Tikki and Plagg attempting to console her.
ââAfter a few days of questions of âWhere's Chat Noir?â, âIs he benched?â and âdid he hand his Miraculous back?â, let alone the news outlets reporting on it⊠it was time. She had to pick a new black catâthe Yin to her Yang, as incredibly cheesy as that sounds.
ââWith the new threat of Chrysalis, she needed her partner.
ââThe arrival of Dynamight was a blessing in disguise, if she was honest. She learned so much about him, had her disagreements with him, got to know the person he was⊠in and out of uniform. He had an attitude, sure, but he handled that fairly well, and Plagg seemed to like him. So really, who else would be better? Katsuki Bakugou was the perfect next candidate. Then came his reveal⊠she found out who he was entirely on accident. She thought, at first, Dynamight was akumatized which was partially true, but then with the capture of the butterfly, and the akuma effects wearing offâKatsuki Bakugou stood there in Dynamight's place. It shocked her deeply, and she carried that knowledge for a good couple of months before she came clean to him.
ââOf course, the discussion with the Kwamis to come to a choice was a long oneâit was a very serious conversation to be had, and the decision had to be heavily considered, but eventually, they all agreed he would be the best possible fit. And thus, Marinette pulled him aside one day after school and offered him the little box with the ring inside. The decision was entirely up to him, and she wouldn't have said otherwise if he refused her offer⊠but he didn't. He took the ring, put it on, and Plagg popped out. A new partnership was made that day, or an extended one.
ââNow, standing before her Miraculers, Ladybug's eyes roamed across all of them, counting heads to make sure everyone was present. This was a big announcement, and everyone needed to be here to hear it. Sucking in a breath, and ignoring one person's question for the moment which she'll get to, the polka dotted hero addressed her team, âI called you all here to make a very important announcement,â Good start, LB, âAs you're all aware, Chat Noir is no longer with us. He's stepped down as the Black Cat holder, and I respect his decision to do soâas should all of you. It was a choice entirely of his own choosing.â She paused, watching the other holders whisper and exchange looks, but all nodded in agreement with her, âBut with Chrysalis as a new threat, we can't not have a Black Cat⊠and so I've made a decision.â More whispers were heard amongst the crowd before their attention going back to Ladybug. One hand on her hip, her other gestured to the lockers behind her, where one boy leaned cross-armed, his usual broody look on his face as his Kwami, Plagg, munched on his Camembert. âDynamight is your new Black Cat holder. I trust you all to respect him as much as I do. Chat Noir will be incredibly missed, but he wouldn't want us to not have a successor for him.â Whether the other holders agreed with her on this choice or not, that was on them to decide for themselves. As Guardian, she had to make a choice, and with the Kwamis to help her, she made it.
