I read this study by @universityofbristol that used ai to model vision in different types of animals. It makes big cats a lot more terrifying. Deer and antelope like to hang out with birds, and the birds give warning calls when they spot a predator. From the deers perspective, the birds must have some psychic ability. Since deer can’t experience these colors, they probably can’t imagine that predators are a completely obvious color to other animals. There’s probably a lot of things that we cannot see, don’t have the words for, and don’t have the capacity to imagine, but they exist. Other places to see my posts: INSTAGRAM / FACEBOOK / ETSY / KICKSTARTER
Humans do have that almost preternatural 6th sense — it’s that sick feeling of dread in your stomach that says “you are in danger. RUN.”
You’ve all felt it, I’m sure.
That is very literally our prey animal response to a threat we can’t see, but can detect.
Gavin de Becker goes into it at depth in The Gift Of Fear, and it’s well-worth the read.
I want stories from the deers perspective.
There’s a rippling shadow at the edge of the field. It’s been there for a while….unmoving… upright. When you first spotted it, a rush of anxiety quivered through you, rippling your fur, and feeling your heart with fear. You tensed, flinching nervously.
That was two hours ago. The thing is half a mile away and it hasn’t moved. You start to eat, picking up the tender shoots under the oak. Soon, Walter emerges from the wood and joins you.
You’ve known him for a while, you’ve seen him grow from an awkward yearling to an impressive buck. With powerful shoulders and large spreading antlers.
Walter looks nervously at the shadow in the distance, reluctant to step out from the shelter of the trees.
His hesitance amuses you. The largest buck in the valley, and he’s afraid to join a little doe like you.
You assure him it’s safe. It’s been there for a while and nothing’s happened. It’s so far away anyway, you can barely see it.
It was only when Walter has started eating, that you notice the shadow has moved. It’s no closer, but it’s pointing at you.
An odd sense of panic and alarm starts to spread, but before you can act on it, annoys like a Thunderclap rips through the air.
Walter’s eyes dart to you in alarm, and you both turn to run…… except he doesn’t follow…. air gushes from the gaping hole in his side.
An rpg where main party can’t make it to the final boss, so a new group is formed in the last minute from the npcs you’ve met on your travels all with their own unique abilities, weapons, and armour.
The grieving old woman you helped earlier in the starting zone by retrieving her daughter’s bastard sword from a goblin encampment? She’s been sparring while you were adventuring and replaces your tank for the fight.
The 7ft tall demon you (hesitantly) released from a sealed off room in a dark temple 40 levels ago? He’s kept his word to stay out of trouble and learned the healing arts, replacing your cleric for the fight.
The severely injured traveller you helped escort out of a skeleton infested tomb with numerous game overs? They’ve returned, riding on the shoulders of a giant elemental construct, replacing your mage for the fight.
The kooky merchant who’s repaired your equipment, crafted your gear, and bought all your useless junk throughout the entire adventure? They’ve smelted all their gold coins and loot into ammunition for a newly purchased rifle, replacing your ranger for the fight.
So this is just a PSA, y'all should never sign a contract until you read it. I’m talking in rl right now. I just got through reading my employee handbook/service contract and my bosses slipped in a lot of bullshit like telling me I can’t complain about my job on social media, demanding I work off the clock in the name of good service, expects me to show up on time during inclimate weather, and considered disability or religious accommodation a direct threat to the company.
These are all things I took issue with and brought to my employer for further discussion before signing the contract. Most of my coworkers signed without reading, treating it like an internet terms of service contract.
Tl;dr real life is serious shit, lawyers write contracts to protect your employer FROM YOU, read contracts before you sign them - fucking ARGUE about contracts before you sign them
Also important to note, and something my bf has repeated to me many times: a contract is a negotiation until it is signed, and YOU ARE ALLOWED TO AMEND IT. Tech companies often put some bs in there about “we own everything you make while you work for us” which broadly applied also means anything done on your own time. He always ALWAYS does write-in amendments with initial and date to state that they only own things done FOR the company, on company time, because there have been companies that enforced that bullshit when somebody had a personal side project the company decided they wanted to steal. There’s only one company that threw a fit at his attempts to amend it and he considered that a huge red flag and refused to sign, turned down the job.
Never. EVER. Sign shit without reading it. Also: if your prospective employer won’t let you take the thing home to read before you sign it and says you need to sign it then and there THAT IS A RED FLAG. The job I had that turned out to be abusive as shit was like that. Every other job I’ve been able to bring the contract home to my parents to have a more experienced set of eyes on it. It’s also common practice in some fields to have one’s attorney look over it before signing. So never let them tell you that you can’t look over it with someone else. That’s a fat load of shit. For “lower level” jobs they may not accept amendments to the contract but if they won’t even give you the proper time to read it over, they’re trying to pull some bullshit on you and you’re going to regret it if you sign. Even if there’s nothing bad in what you signed it’s an example of how they are going to treat you while you’re there. Take it to heart and run like fucking hell.
Please also tell your coworkers. Inform others. Tell everyone. Please, for the lovee of everything TELL PEOPLE THEY ARE ALLOWED TO DO THESE THINGS.
Companies BANK on the fact you’re not going to read it. Then they slip in shit like ‘you can’t talk about your wages’ because they want you to keep quiet, so thy can pay that guy six bucks, and pay the guy over there fifteen and pay you eight. They want you to accept it all blindly. PLEASE DON’T STAY BLIND.
Yes, I’ve lost out on jobs because I wanted to read it and they didn’t want me to. Or they wanted m to resign and I said no to to the things they added that I pointed out were unfair and borderline illegal.
Read shit. Tell everyone else to read shit. BE INFORMED.
Absolutely 100% good advice ☝🏼☝🏼☝🏼
Never ever ever sign shit without reading and re-reading it! Take it home, show it to someone more experienced, if you can, show it to a lawyer. A contract is supposed to work for both sides. A company in Toronto tried to make me sign a contract with clause that in event of me leaving the job I will not work in a similar position anywhere in Ontario. Yeah, right, not enforceable in court, dudes, you can’t prevent me from making a living. Read the shit and don’t let them intimidate you.

I’m sobbing I love this Tik Tok more than I love myself
This speech-language pathologist taught her dog 29 words, and he can even form full sentences.
Video by Christina Hunger
Dogs actually do have a language center in their brains. They process language just the same way we do, just not as well.
They do understand our words. This is not true of all domesticated animals (horses, for example, can only manage to distinguish a relatively small number of spoken commands…but boy do they know what you’re really saying).
They don’t understand “just your tone of voice” as a lot of people think.
As of 2016 the record vocabulary for a dog demonstrating understanding of words is over 1,000.
So if you give them a way to talk back, they’re going to use it.
The development of language skills is probably a side effect of domestication and of being kept in close contact with humans. A dog that was a better hunting partner would be kept and bred and over time they developed a better understanding of language.
In other words, dogs are pretty dang smart because we need them to understand us.
And also that is a very good boy.
Any time someone tells me birds aren’t descended from dinosaurs, I show them this.

Let’s do this #EthicalMemes
Hello everyone, my name is Shibasaki. Welcome to my watercolor channel! With my videos I hope I will be able to teach you professional trans
This is his channel!
This is his most recent video! Please leave positive comments after watching the video and press the Like button.
I’ve seen his watercolor tutorials and they made me want to paint again. It’s wholesome content and he is a kind soul.
I love my third grandpa 🥺
the video is 14 minutes long so to summarise: he’s not looking for support in the form of compliments, he’s looking for feedback (specifically if his videos are engaging and helpful, bc he wants to work on evening out the high subscriber/low view count ratio). he would like to be getting around 10% of his subscribers’ viewership which is around 40k views per video as he is only getting around 20k
he is an ailing old man who just wants to figure out the best way to ensure that his videos (across four channels damn!!!) are helping people, it’s essentially his legacy. so if you’re trying to get into watercolor painting or like to have relaxing painting videos on while you’re working on things, check out his channel and give him some views!!!
decided to combine these ones into one post now i’ve got a whole batch more of them. these have been a load of fun to do! both the ones that attempt to look like a whole new pokemon and the ones that are just an exercise in monster design. parts palette of beedrill, icecream line, and deoxys. bonus urskeksys. check out the first round too! https://dazzydeer.tumblr.com/post/187234576413/and-now-for-something-very-silly-to-finish-for
