Furudate must have been laughing sadistically when he made Oikawa's current motto ("全員と相棒"). The choice to use 相棒 seems intentional, given the significance of it between Oikawa and Iwaizumi in one of their most iconic scenes: when Iwaizumi called Oikawa a partner he's proud of ("自慢の相棒"). I don't think any other duos in the series uses 相棒.

Once, in his youth, Oikawa had an ace that was the most special existence on the court for him, someone who was neither the most talented nor the most skilled player, but a childhood best friend he trusted unconditionally on and off the court.

After they parted ways, Oikawa went on to play more and more years of volleyball, achieving his dreams of playing at the top level, but no star ever compared to the one from his youth.

The ova Yet Another Man's Battlefield explores why Mustang can never settle down and get married like Maes Hughes.

The same thing applies to Riza, only Riza has the horrible bonus of having the Alchemical equivalent to nuclear launch codes on her back. It takes a near-death experience for Roy to hold the woman he loves, and for Riza to finally let herself be held.
