This one is a couple of weeks late! I started work at Robot Chicken again + fell behind from my holiday travels. 

Like I said in an earlier post, I’m going to keep posting on tumblr, but I’ll be adding some extra content to the Pokédad instagram account. Look for polls, contests, ama’s, and pictures of my cat. Follow @pokedadcomic please!

Hi welcome back to Pokédad! Next post planned for next-next week!

Hi this is Liz.

I’m sorry for abruptly discontinuing Pokédad. It was always my goal to pick it back up, but two years passed quickly with no updates or progress for you. I checked in from time to time, but my anxiety about a lack of updates, and unanswered messages fed into my reason for stopping: the poor state of my mental health. To super-simplify, I stopped because I was feeling too much anxiety and depression, partially about making art. I stopped making comics, but I also stopped making cartoons, illustrations, sketches, everything. I’d make a doodle or an animation from time to time, and I’d feel like I was on the upswing and recovering from my strange neurosis, but then I’d relapse, hate my art, and disappoint myself.

I’ve spent the last couple of years trying to make my brain healthier. I’m very lucky: I can talk about my anxieties with a strong, supportive community. I have great friends who listen. I started going to a therapist.

So, I’m sorry for the stop. A day late to “World Mental Health Day” I’m happy to say I’m getting better. I still feel imposter syndrome, and I definitely still have anxiety, but it’s no longer impeding my ability to create. And in the future, I’d like to be transparent about bad days. I felt very isolated in my depression and anxiety, but for me, being open about it has been a tipping point to a healthy brain. I’d also like to shake some of the shame away from openly saying, I feel bad, I think I need some help.

Here’s some fun stuff: I’m happy to announce Pokédad is coming back! Look for an update on October 19th! BIG CHANGE THOUGH: I’m starting back up with updates every-other week. My goal is to ease back to weekly updates, but until then, two per month is a good starting place for me. I’m going to start designing some merch and goodies, so I’d love to hear your input. Also, I’ll have some contests and giveaways soon. Also also we’re gonna be starting up a super shiny new website for comic updates, as well as an instagram page. New comics will still be uploaded here though!

Thanks to everyone who messaged me to check in. I didn’t see them until I logged in for the first time (in years?) today, and it was so nice to read your notes. I’ll have way more updates soon.
