... but sure, just repost all the CC and presets in the Simdump folder and don't even name the creators whose stuff you're reposting.

By which I mean stop including the CC and preset files. It's not okay to distribute someone else's stuff! How is this not obvious?? It being easier than making a list of what's actually used on a Sim does not make it okay.

A reminder to Simmers: This is how you end up with Mods folders full of duplicates etc., AND how you end up with some creators just giving up on posting CC at all. Get your CC from the creators not Simdumps.

Unpopular opinion? but simdumps aren't what's hurting cc creators.

I don't like stirring up drama, but here is my reasoning for including cc in a simdump, and saying (credit to cc creators!) other than it being perfectly legal.

I have made links to cc multiple times in the past, and a whole bunch of them were dead and unhelpful within a year. Because they were deleted, because a creator quit. When I went looking for sims 3 simdumps long ago, all of them were done in the way you say is proper, and every single one was a dead link, rendering it completely useless. (Because those ts3 cc creators moved on to ts4 or quit & deleted) And those were only two year old ts3 simdumps at the time. Basically, creators & their cc will always come and go, and people have a right to move on. But there is a bit of discouragement and disappointment for both parties.

The reason for not tagging all the creators is for self preservation. Because a lot, if not all of those who have exclusive, locked cc, have been known to harass and go as far as to actually cures simmers, hack their accounts and competely destroy them... it's hard to tell whose psycho about a game these days.

I do like things to be convenient for me and competent downloaders like myself. And if anyone ever wanted any specific cc I have used, I gladly send them to the creator through wcif's. But giving credit is not something I owe them. I do really appreciate creators so I give credit! but I don't owe them anything. (Like how ppl don't have to tag me everytime they use one of my sims. It's great to be appreciated, but they don't owe me that)

And when you decide to download cc of any kind, you're responsible for how it's organized in your folder. That goes across the board for all games, not just sims.

Conclusion: What's important is for creators and distributors to inform themselves, on legal agreements, like shown in the picture I included.

I am sorry if I've ever offended anyone, that was never my intention. But this is my opinion.

I could list dozens of other reasons that hurt cc creators more than a Simdump. If you don't like what happens to your files and what other people could do with them, then don't share them with the public.

and to add to that:

we by the way have A LOT WORSE problems in this community than ppl including cc in simdumps for convenience.

• like the fact that there are still a shit-ton of paywallers or creators with an insanely long early access period. not to mention that some of them apparently think it's not insulting to our intelligence at all to do the smallest edit on an already existing ea mesh and then put it in early access. op has mentioned this briefly above too. Very not cool.

• the curseforge issue still persists too, there are still far too many creators uploading their cc to this trashheap of a website. and to be honest, power to the people who reupload that stuff somewhere else. we've been pretty loud about why curseforge sucks.

• the ea creator network is another issue especially now that ea is pretty much belonging to some of the worst people on this fucking planet. yet again, same with the curseforge issue - all the arguments that can and often have been made by people against using cf and/or be a member of the creator network have been falling on too many deaf ears in my opinion. i'm worried about problematic behaviour like this a lot more and i'd argue that the cc creators who care about these issues as well will agree with me.

• the usage of generative ai to create cc/mods or even posts for simblr is becoming more and more of an issue as well and it already is enough of an issue for @simmers-against-ai to even exist. that's fucking grim and sure as hell worries me a lot more than someone including cc in a simdump.

and of course there are bad actors who put simdumps with cc included behind paywalls or even do this with whole mods folders. i'd rather argue that THAT is the main issue here and not the fact that cc is included for convenience or a lack of individual credit being given. and as long as people enable shitty behaviour like this, i don't see it change a lot in the future.
