please remember to forgive yourself for the years your mental illness took away from you

in another universe, you wouldn’t exist in my world. we would have never met or crossed paths. life would go back to what it was before you.

In another universe, we are not separated by distance and time

In another universe, you would still love me. You would let me know you loved me. in another universe, it would be us, you and me,  and you wouldn’t drop my hand and my heart like they were unbreakable. 

in another universe, i don’t look for you everywhere i go, in every person i meet.

in another universe, i never felt the pain of losing you.

In another universe, I could trust you with my heart, be brave enough to tell you how much I love you, without being afraid of your reciprocation merely because I know you cannot say no. I wouldn’t bury my feelings, and try to get you together with someone else, so I wouldn’t have to confront myself. I would be brave enough to stand by your side, instead of sacrificing our friendship, so I wouldn’t lose others. But for now, I’ll stand on the side, hoping the best for your life, that it may be long and full, that you may never have to feel sorrow again, and let your days be bright and full of happiness, and burden lifted, knowing I may soon have to let go, and say goodbye.

I don’t know who needs to hear this but grief is so much more than just something you experience when someone dies. it’s okay to grief opportunities and time lost. people you used to know. people you used to be. relationships. ways of living. places. your childhood. you can feel grief over so many things and it’s okay and real and seeking help is okay too, you’re not being disrespectful.
