Poetic Desolation

You’re not going to be happy all the time. No one ever is. Sometimes you’re just going to sort of exist, and that’s okay. Learn to be satisfied with “content” and “calm” and “not sad.” Not sad is good. Not sad is great.

They say a person needs just three things to be truly happy in this world: someone to love, something to do, and something to hope for.

I loved to sleep with the window open. Rainy nights were the best of all: I would open the window and put my head on the pillow and close my eyes and feel the wind on my face and listen to the trees sway and creak.

I am deeply suspicious of people in general. It is my nature to expect the worst of them.

Now this might disturb you, but I find I’m OK by myself; and I don’t need you or your benevolence to make sense.

Envy is a horrible thing. It is unlike all other kinds of suffering in that there is no disguising it, no elevating it into tragedy. It is more than merely painful, it is disgusting.
