life has been weighing heavy upon me,
like stern hands on weak shoulders.
i’ve been trying not to keep memories long,
throwing them away like tissue paper,
throwing them away like tissues.
because if i look back and see nothing,
it’s better than looking back and seeing what happened.
floating like something empty, drifting like a body unrooted.
i’m alone.
there’s no us or we or you or them.
i sit in my room, alone.
and i make sure to feel nothing,
keep my eyes toward the blank wall, imagining what could be written there.
i’m alone, and i am (finally)
nothing.
