In terms of establishing the fundamental aesthetic of the 1990s strand of cinematic cyberpunk, the 1993 Super Mario Bros. adaptation is probably up there with Johnny Mnemonic and Lawnmower Man influence-wise, as much as we all hate to admit it.

the pokemon move Swift is fascinating to me. a pokemon shoots stars at you and you "I bet a cat could do that." that's normal. that's Normal Type. you got Scratch, Tackle, Headbutt, and of course, shooting rays of heat-seeking stars at people.

I always thought the star animation was some sort of abstraction of whatever the move was supposed to be, but no in Japanese it's called Speed Star which also translates to Speedster so they translated it to Swift. It was always stars and that was always normal

there’s a dedicated ashandpikachuspotter account somewhere on some social media. You tag a photo or search for a term and boom, there’s pics of this guy. this dude. this man. with his pikachu. and it’s thousands of strangers from across the globe coming on line to talk about some stranger that they met briefly and then never saw again. they’ve compiled their stories and their approximate locations and mapped his journey from continent to continent, a long snaking pathway that spans decades and thousands of miles. He’s apparently one of those Kanto kids that the government let just drop out of school. Its working out very well for him.
