i really cannot stand it when white trans men claim that closeted, pre-transition trans men have privilege akin to a cis man’s because white women are apparently rewarded for performing masculinity.
meanwhile, all the trans men of color i know—myself included—were degendered, harassed, and even had violence enacted upon us for not performing femininity. I was ostracized at school, faced violence in my own home, and even nearly faced violence out on the street because I did not perform femininity correctly.
and then when trans men of color try and speak about how when you’re seen as a WOC, your masculinity is met with violence, we get told by white trans men, and even white trans and cis women, that we are lying or not real men or that we were being targeted for something other than our masculinity.
i’m so tired of white people applying their tiny, narrow experience to the huge and vast array of ways people of color exist and are affected by the world. stop talking over us because you don’t know what you’re talking about at all.
