I wrote something. Something sad. Something not for the faint of heart.
A story about hopelessness and how it changes one’s outlook on love and life.
Chapters: 19/19 Fandom: Bridgerton (TV) Rating: Mature Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply Relationships: Daphne Bridgerton/Simon Basset Characters: Daphne Bridgerton, Simon Basset, Lady Danbury (Bridgerton), Lord Wetherby (Bridgerton) Additional Tags: Angst, Extramarital Affairs, Period-Typical Homophobia, Sad with a Happy Ending, Sexual Content, Minor Character(s), POV Third Person Plural, Present Tense, Time Skips, Pregnancy, Alternate Universe - Canon Divergence, Canon Divergence - Trowbridge Ball, Canon Divergence - S1E4, Complete Summary:
After Simon ends their ruse on a sunny April morning in 1813, Daphne becomes disillusioned with love. Her heart is broken; the realities of life are harsher than what she expected. Her dreams of finding a love match and living happily ever after seem like nothing but childish notions now. So, she chooses another path.
What happens when you connect with someone on a deep level, but lose them? Do you move on from that feeling, do you spend the rest of your days hunting that feeling, or do you wait for the person who granted you that feeling?
Warning: This is a very, very messy, and a very, very sad take on “What would have happened?”. It’s a scale up from the mild angst in my canon-adjacent fics, so be warned, dear reader. Proceed at your own risk. To atone for my sin of making them utterly unhappy, I publish this as a completed novella, so that you may find solace at the end.
