I just feel like the writers played up the whole Ted isnt right for Robin and vice versa thing so well that it doesnt make any sense for them to end up together. I stopped caring about Ted and Robin the minute they said she wasnât the mother. I let go of that idea. Then, I fell in love with Barneys character, and began to love the dynamic between him and Robin. I just donât understand.
I see where people think it was a great finale if you look at it in the way that the characters never really changed and Ted started the story with Robin, so obviously it had to end with her to, but just- come on. That ending wouldâve made sense for season 2 or 3, but not after seasons 4+. The characters developed way to much.
Iâm sorry to everyone who thinks it was an awesome finale, because I really do see where youâre coming from. I just canât wrap my head around that being right. Iâm sure some of you guys agree.
I love the finale but Iâm with you. Robin and Barney were perfect together. The whole story seemed to be leading up to the fact that Ted couldnât meet the mother until he was officially over Robin. Every relationship he had failed because he wasnât able to let her go. The final season pretty much confirmed that when he literally let her go on the beach. To then take that back and put them back together kind of ruins the relationship he had with Tracy in my eyes. Had she not died would they have stayed together? He clearly was never really over Robin and the only reason he wound up with the mother was because Robin married Barney. I wish we could have had more of Ted and Tracy. I feel like we really lost out not getting to really see them together as a couple much. Maybe one day we can get a movie about the years they were together.
It's like they forgot what the show was about when they wrote the finale. I read online somewhere that HIMYM was a different show when the finale was written, and that the writers just refused to accept that it had evolved and therefore didn't change the ending. I agree with you 100% you couldn't have said it better.
