they’ve had the gall, the audacity, the nerve to censor one of the best and most sacred works of art of all time: a JRPG featuring a talking cat that turns into a bus. how could they mar the sacred beauty of the original game by changing it, the Loyal Persona Fan wonders, lovingly stroking his copy of Persona 5 Royal, which is, coincidentally, an entire release edition of the game made specifically to change and improve aspects of the original Persona 5. 

don’t they know that removing homophobia from a japanese game would be culturally insensitive, because japanese LGBTQ people and japanese LGBTQ-rights movements don’t exist? how dare they try and take away his god given right to slander the lives and humanity of people attracted to other people of the same sex? you’re just going to make him have to realize that perhaps he cannot bully other people over their sexuality to make himself feel better about his small dick?

Atlus has announced Persona 5 Scramble: The Phantom Strikers for PlayStation 4 and Switch. It is an action RPG developed by Koei Tecmo studio Omega Force.

I’d be less annoyed if Royal were coming to Switch, and not just vanilla, but C'est la Vie.

FeMC hype, however! I wonder what she’ll look like?!

We still genuinely don’t know what this game is, but people are acting like a remake is a foregone conclusion. Even some games journalists are reporting it as fact. While it’s still a possibility, it is not at all a fact. 

What we do know for certain

1 - It’s an RPG

So we know for certain it’s not a fighting game or anything else anyone was theorising about. 

2 - It’s only been announced for the PS4

Which points away from it being an enhanced rerelease like golden or p3p. Rereleases are meant to reach a new audience, so I would expect the game to release on Switch and possibly PC in addition to PS4. And yes I know about FES, but Final Mix/Directors cut type games just aren’t a thing in the age of DLC. And yes, it could still be announced for switch, but if that’s a major selling point why not lead with that?

Rereleasing a game on the same platform two years later makes no sense. However releasing a sequel or sidequel makes perfect sense. 

3 - The girl shown in the trailer is a Shujin 1st year

Shujin students wear lapel pins with 1, 2 or 3 on to show what year they are. She’s clearly wearing a 1 pin. This means she isn’t simply a genderswapped AkiRen, and most likely has a different backstory and different problems, as a 1st year wouldn’t be as much of an outsider as a transfer student. 

4 - The girl says she disapproves of the Phantom thieves. 

This again points away from an enhanced rerelease, as she does not appear to be a member of the phantom thieves or sympathetic to them. It could be that A-She’s lying while being interrogated, or B - She changes her mind later, but in isolation there’s no reason to assume this.  If this is an enhanced port, I would guess FeMC isn’t just a genderbend, but has a majorly different route.

Bonus 1- She looks like a main character

If you look at the character designs in P5, you’ll see that Akiren’s Design is clear, simple, and is a reflection of the game’s aesthetic as a whole, while the other characters have twists and pops of colour to set them apart. You can see the same in P3 and P4. Her design is simple, and again a pure reflection of the games aesthetic, but leaning more towards the red than the black. This is why I feel that she isn’t simply an additional phantom thief. 

Bonus 2 - Persona 5 sold well enough to justify a sequel

Persona 5 sold 2.2m copies - that’s twice as many as persona 4 and P4G combined, and persona 4 got a bunch of spinoffs. It doesn’t need to rerelease the game on the same platform to get more players, they need to give their existing fans more

And how many of those people would repurchase and replay a hundred-hour game just for some bonus content? People with the cash don’t have the time, people with the time don’t have the cash, vice-versa. It would take a full sequel to make it worth the time/money for many of those people. 

Bonus 3 - There are more than one P5 related projects in development

So a P4G style enhanced port for the switch is still in the running, it’s just not necessarily P5R. 

I think it’s kind of funny how we all just assumed it was a P4G/P3FES affair based on very little info, and while yes, it does seem pretty likely, lets take a second to consider all the other things it might be!

1- Full blown sequel. Yes please.

2- Murder mystery VN. Also yes please.

3-Sidequel where you play as Akechi doing all his shady stuff.

3-Educational sidequel where you play as Mishima running the website and learn all about website building, coding, and Mishima’s crippling loneliness!!

4-IDK, something with Naoto. I know she’s P4 but more Naoto please.

5- Persona 5 Racing. All the personas transform into vehicles!

6- Persona 5 rumble. It’s a fighting game.

7-Persona 5 rumble, but it’s an arena shooter.

8-Same again, but this time it’s a PUBG clone

9-Persona 5 Re:Coded - a data Akiren goes into the data world to fight bugs- wait, what do you mean this idea is terrible??

10 - Persona 5 romance - a full on dating sim/choose your own adventure porno

11- Persona 5 ranch. It’s a farming sim. The unjust gods demand to be fed set amounts of fresh produce per day, or annihilation will rain down on the earth. You can hire all your favourite personas farm hands, and have kids with your waifu’s and force them into crippling manual labour!
