terry is a fern

“I arrived!” He said with a huge sigh. Complicated travel was not for her, she hated longs that were complicated by some stupid reason “Now … What did I have to do anyway?” She asked herself, grabbing her cell phone and beginning to look where she should go.

“I’m not sure the criminal I punched last week would agree with that.” Jason teases as he watches the plants move. “Yeah, of course. What’s wrong?”

“anything,” he replied and dropped the oreos on his cousins’ hands, unceremoniously taking one for himself. “dude, you don’t need the whole table food that,” he rolled his eyes. then again, his cousin was more worried about academics than him.

“i’m pretty sure that three times make it a serial thing klutz or a disaster,” he retorts matter-of-factly. he gets back to his sit, hands filled with oreos. “easy. you keep the stuff inside your bag and the bag on the table. how do you not know this?”

“ i guess so , yeah , “ naomi shrugged her shoulders. “ maybe one that had a better security system and was more protected… “ and one that did better background checks when it came to its guards but she didn’t say that out loud. 

“You know I taught him how to make those, right?” Roy says with a chuckle, nudging the kid back gently. He doesn’t mind, truly. “I really wasn’t, c’mon. If I hadn’t liked you you would’ve been table to tell. I don’t think I could say you’re my favourite, though. I don’t have a favourite kid, I love you all.”

“Well that sounds more like a drone, and I still would prefer you.” Jason says with a smile at them. “I like the sound of that.”

“Absolutely not, I could never replace you. I don’t want a mannequin, I want the real one.” Jason replies with a shake of his head. “Veggie burger you got it, we can grill absolutely. We haven’t done that in a while.”

“Ouch. I guess I’m gonna have to live with that.” He says with a chuckle, though he doesn’t take it personally. “I didn’t get worried at all. Your dad gets a certain look in his eye when he finds a kid he wants to give a better life - I knew that’s what it was with you, too. Wasn’t worried at all.”

he was supposed to be focusing on the book sitting in front of him, instead, his eyes were on his cousin, just waiting. he knew it was coming and simply shook his head at the scene.  “you’re a walking disaster, terry,” he mused good-naturedly as he got up to help his cousin. “you need better food sneaking techniques,” he joked. 

“It’ll take so many tries to film it, just because I can imagine the camera shaking from so much laughter.“ She smiled, just trying to think what other vines they would also make them recreate. “True, they do love making us happy and I’m sure they’ll get a kick out of it once they see what they made. We could maybe even ask if they’ll do other ones“

“I can handle falling, don’t worry.” Lian smiles at her own words as she’s calling out to him. She follows the voice, and eventually reaches the wall. “There you are!” She says as she stops, and knows that she doesn’t even have to ask if they’re okay. “If I get tangled up then at least we’re together, huh?”

“Well that’s something we can deal with later. I’m not concerned about the house because I can easily replace it, all of that is just stuff. I’m more worried about you.” Jason sighs as he looks at them. “Alright, is there anything you want me to get you? Food even?”

It was a hard choice, between eating dirt and being called a wimp. “Well what’s in it for me? Besides not being a wimp, I mean. Cause you should never do something for free if you can get something out of it.”

“Terry, are you out here still?” Lian calls out as she steps into the backyard. She wasn’t worried about getting hurt. She wanted to check on her brother, make sure that he was okay with everything going on today. Her feet take her body a step forward, knowing that she would have to be careful, but the concern for Terry outweighed looking out for herself.

Jason had just gotten back home, and he steps out where Terry was. He looks at the tree that was there now. “Well that’s new, doesn’t look that bad.” He moves around it to get to Terry, stepping over the roots on the ground. “Is there anything I can do?” The worry was obvious on his face, how could it not be?

“Not really.” Roy answers without batting an eye, setting his phone aside and turning his attention to the kid. “Considering I’ve been around since Jay found you, I’ve got no problem with you calling me dad.”
