13 years too long. End offshore detention now. 19 July 2026 marked thirteen years since the Australian Government restarted offshore detention. Successive governments have spent billions maintaining this system, while more than 100 people, who are trapped inside it continue to suffer.

A new report by the ASRC exposes one of the most basic failures of Australia's offshore detention regime: people cannot reliably access enough food to survive and meet basic needs.

Based on interviews with 78 people seeking asylum on Nauru:

99% said they cannot afford enough food on the allowance they receive.

68% rarely or never have access to fresh fruit, vegetables or meat.

82% do not have easy access to clean drinking water.

Many reported regularly skipping meals, significant weight loss, chronic fatigue and worsening mental health.

This isn't an accident. It's the predictable consequence of a system designed to keep people in indefinite limbo. No amount of tinkering can fix offshore detention.
