"I think on the topic of cultural identity and sexuality, I think it's difficult because of the way it's seen through the western lens. Being Muslim, it's impossible to escape the orientalism of particularly women's bodies, but outside of that really disempowering lens, I think I am more able to embrace myself a sexual being. There are very rigid orthodox understandings of appropriate sexual expression, however even within those there's an understanding of humans as sexual beings.
