Sergio Del Rosso is a 32-year-old photographer from Italy with four years experience. Despite this short time, his work has still earned a place on the National Geographic website. He has also won second place in the Metro (Italian newspaper) competition for a photo to represent Italy. 

Story Behind:

The tide had receded, unveiling the jagged rocks to bask in the sun. These weren’t just any rocks I was photographing. I was at Curio Bay in New Zealand, capturing the beauty of a petrified forest. As I walked, I tested different angles and tried to capture the water beginning to fill the depressions between the fossiled trees.

A sense of peace, patience, and deep concentration had taken hold on me. I was enchanted by the landscape. 

I noticed another photographer pointing emphatically at the sky. Dark clouds had moved in, threatening rain. It wasn’t long before the sun was covered and lighting was too poor to continue. I had decided to follow the rest of the group when something caught my eye that I did not see before.
