2 Weeks of PK - Odinās Cozy Outfit
Todayās prompt in 2 Weeks of PK, is āCozy Outfitā, and I want to talk Odinās fashion. A while back, @toonqueen posted some questions about how Uno went from no hair, to becoming Odin with hair down to his knees, and I said I had an answer to that.
From my fic World Spins Madly On, chapter Four:
- There were many oddities about his body he wished he could ask Everett about. Like why he thought an attached thick metal cord with a port on the end of it dangling off the back of Odinās head was a wise idea. Or why his legs got thicker from the bottom of his knees, partially covering his feet, creating monstrously huge ankles. Or the reasoning why his shoulders had a thick ridge around where his arm connected to the torso. It served no feature beyond decorative as far as he could tell.
As Odin, heād had to make fashion choices to hide these features, such as the long flowing hair, wide-shouldered suits, and flared trousers. Which strangely, people had taken on a fashion trend. Developing a public aversion to being touched helped as well, as well as a reputation of eccentricity in general helped provide a useful cover. -
We only see Odinās droid body for a few panels in PKNA #48 - The Parts and the Whole. Here he is when he first wakes up, having successfully merged with Duo and downloaded himself out of the Ducklair Tower and into his android body. Compared to the rest of the ducks in the series, his body is almost mantis like, alien.
The thing I want to note here is that thereās a cord coming from the back of his head, connecting him to the towerās systems. Then we see him stand up, stepping off the table. (also, Odinās shadow in the upper right panel doesnāt match his hand motions, I donāt know why, but it amuses me)Ā
The cord is still attached to the back of his head, hanging down to his knees. The next time we see the newly created Odin is him with a sythetnic skin and clothing covering him.
-Including hair down to the back of his knees, just long enough to hide the cord on the back of his skull. As stated in the fic, the flamboyant cut of the clothing hides his physical oddities, the too wide shoulders and ankles, while providing a fashionble silouette.
This is in 2188, and pretty much all the background characters have short hair. Granted, the majority of characters are mechanical workers, but even the from other professions have short hair. There is the the possiblity that the cord could have been removed, akin to an umbilical cord, but then he wouldnāt require the long hair, another feature that makes him stand out from everyone else.
But compare this to his appearance 67 years later in 2255 during PKNA #5 Portriat of the Young Hero, when he welcomes Paperinik to the future:
Several of the background characters have now long hair, tied up in strange ponytails. Ducklas Styvensantās own clothing and hair styles mimic Odinās, who at this point in time is essentially the current Scrooge McDuck in the world in terms of wealth and power.Ā
In hiding his robotic features, Odin changed 23rd century fashion.
