Jonathan pressed his lips together and nodded his head politely. He himself was familiar in experiencing the same feeling growing up.  No one truly relied on him growing up not even his own siblings. “Trust me. I know the feeling.” He agreed with a shrug. His gaze soon shifted down towards the stranger’s bowl. “I’ll definitely take your word for it. Might get me a bowl myself too. Oh, it’s just a playlist for some kid’s party. He’s some ten year old kid or more so he’d gonna be ten.” 

Jarrah hummed in response as they looked over the playlist. “It’s a reputation I’ve well earned. Honestly works the best for my line of work… Now I really don’t know much about children, and while I do delight in this artist's work, is Cardi B really appropriate for a 10 year old audience?”

if flynn rider knew how to do anything at all, it was take peoples’ money, whether it be through an upsell of product or from pulling wallets out of pockets - he prided himself on that. it showed on the smirk placed firmly on his face, thanks to the compliment. “coming right up.”

careful eyes were trained on the man as he mixed the drink together - the fleeting urge to put on a show, maybe do a little jig, passed without incident as he set down the glass. did he know how to read people ? yeah, that was probably accurate. he shrugged, thinking about it a moment. “most situations are easy to read,” he offered as he put an umbrella in the glass and passed it off.

“are you new around here ? haven’t seen you in the snuggly duckling before.”

“Aye.” Jarrah said, nodding a bit as they took the drink. “Wondering on through if all goes well.” he says before taking a sip and leaning in a bit.  “There hasn’t been a scoundrel of a man coming in to darken your doorstep. One, what goes by the name Barbossa and carries misfortune for all he encounters? Dear friend of mine, looking to find him and put a bullet through his head.” Jarrah says, carrying a casual air with his words as they casually drink. “Figure you would be in a good position to spot and read such a creature you might know.”

alberto  nodded  enthusiastically.  ❝  sure  do !   ❞   not  that  he  was  the  biggest  fan  of  sports,  but  sometimes  they  would  put  it  on  at  the  bar  and  he  was  always  fascinated  watching  how  fast  the  pitchers  could  throw  the  baseball  or  amused  by  the  hockey  players  getting  into  fights.  jarrah’s  approval  made  alberto  shoot  a  beaming  smile  over  at  them.  ❝  yes !  i  think  i’d  make  a  great  pirate.  i’m  a  great  swimmer  too,  y’know …  just  in  case  i  get  thrown  overboard  or  somethin’.  i  know  how  to  fish  too.  i  don’t  get  seasick … ❞   he  nodded  along  as  he  spoke,  clearly  amused  with  himself. 

“Aye.” Jarrah said, sharing in the amusement as they turned to lock eyes with Alberto. “Wonderful, but do you have the courage and fortitude to follow orders and stay true in the face of danger and almost certain death?” They said, keeping eye contact as he leaned in a bit. “There’s more to piracy then the stories tell, it’s not the easiest life. It is fighting, kick and screaming in demand for freedom that the land doesn’t give you and the sea wants to take from you, but master a ship and no living being can stop you.”

Belle’s eyes widened, though she quickly schooled her features. It sounded like the beginning of an adventure story. “In the middle of a hurricane … who are you?” she had to ask.

She looked down at the book, smiling at the cover. “Actually, the point of this club is to read it beforehand and then we discuss the book over some tea, coffee, cakes, and stuff. Book clubs are usually good so I hope it’ll be great discussion,” she said, distracted. “I’ve always wanted to be part of one but never did join until now. The book is about a rock band in the 60s and all the trials and drama in their lives. It’s written like an interview,” she said excitedly, happy to ramble as she always did with books, not really much caring if they were listening or not. “I listened to half of it as an audiobook, and the speakers were very good, it felt so real.”

“Me?” Jarrah said, standing a bit straighter. “Captain Jarrah Sparrow.” He said with a nod of their head and a bit of a bow.  “It has truly been delightful meeting you Miss..?” Jarrah paused and raised an eyebrow.

Jarrah listens, watching her carefully as a small smile appears at the corner of their lips. “I can’t say that a book club would be of interest to me, but they way you brighten when you speak of it is enchanting enough.” He says, her whole speech is truly endearing. Jarrah loved listening to his crew tell stories of their adventures and her passion for books matched that energy. “Though the book itself sounds interesting, is it fiction?”

thackery shook his head as the other person took a step back. “it’s quite alright! simply a bit startling. i’d hate for anyone to get a black eye from a misunderstanding.” he hummed. on shore? interesting. the other fellow must be a sailor of sorts. thackery could never commit to that - he hadn’t the stomach nor the swimming abilities to be off land for very long - but he could certainly respect it.

“alright, then. let’s walk, shall we?“ thackery said, starting to lead the way. “‘fraid not. i’ve only been here a handful of months myself, but i’ve done a bit of exploring in that time so. i know my way around well enough.” and then, almost as an afterthought, “i’m thackery, by the way. welcome to elias.”

“Wouldn’t be the first time.” Jarrah said with a bit of a laugh. “But good looking out.” They continue as the follow behind. “Making a map is usually a good first move…” Jarrah mused as he stumbled behind. “After you collect your bearings that is.”

“Oh…” They murmured out, eyes on a sign up ahead as they realized introductions have been skipped. “Right, Wonderful to meet you Thackery, I am Jarrah. Captain Jarrah Sparrow, that is.” He said, waving his hand with a bit of a flourish.

alberto’s  eyes  went  wide.  the  last  thing  he  was  expecting  was  for  them  to  be  a  captain  of  a  ship.  ❝  yeah !   i  thought  you  were  gonna  say  a  sports  team  or  somethin’.  fuck  that  !   a  ship  is  way  cooler.  ❞  he  entered  the  bar  and  took  his  usual  seat,  gesturing  to  the  one  beside  him  for  jarrah  to  join.  ❝  can’t  say  it’s  crossed  my  mind.  why ?  do  you  think  i’d  make  a  good  pirate ?  ❞

“Sports teams…” Jarrah echoes, tilting their head slightly. They had forgotten that sports had captains, and had never thought themselves looking capable of sports. “Yes those do have captains don’t they.” They were quick to take up the seat, looking for a menu of sorts. “As of present, I’d say you have the spirit about you, but let us see how you fair after a few rounds savvy?”

⚔️ ⠀  ⠀ ⠀  ⠀ ───────────    elizabeth   didn’t   need   to   blame   her   hormones   for   the   absolute   rage   she   felt   when   it   came   to   the   likes   of   jarrah   sparrow.   their   unawareness   and   lack   of   accountability   was   leaving   her   blood   absolutely   boiling.   she   took   a   sharp   inhale   as   she   shook   her   fist   after   it   had   made   contact   with   jarrah’s   jaw.   the   pain   she   should   have   been   feeling   was   all   but   ignored.   in   the   morning   however   it   was   going   to   be   a   different   story.   

“   you   do   deserve   it.   ”      she   told   them   matter   of   factly,   venom   seeping   in   her   words.      “   leaving   me   here   without   a   word   is   friendly   ?   ”   she   questioned   with   a   scoff.   the   woman   swore   her   eyes   would   have   rolled   out   of   her   head   from   how   hard   she   rolled   them.   of   course   he   had   been   passed   out   somewhere   on   a   beach.   

“   no,   i   don’t   have   any   leads.   i   gave   up   looking   for   your   ship   the   moment   you   left.   i   wasn’t   going   to   spend   my   time   here   dedicated   to   your   cause,   jarrah.   ”   elizabeth   had   caspian   now   and   soon   she   would   have   athena.   when   her   children   were   old   enough   she   would   have   her   adventures.   it   would   be   her   own   cause   and   not   anyone   else’s.   

“How can I have left you here if I don’t even know where here is?” Jarrah exclaims, arms raising to the sky as he puts himself out of arms reach. “Have you considered, what might have been time for you was but seconds for me? There is clearly some sort of magic here. Honestly Lizzy.” They say shaking their head.

“I don’t fault you for not looking for leads, you are correct. I am in your debt after all, but the last thing I remember was us getting out of Port Royal. Then I woke up, on a beach I didn’t recognize, but thankfully this time it was connected to something.” He rolls his eyes as he retrieves his compass. “I can’t even get my compass working, that’s how lost I am.”

The compass spins for a few moments before pointing south. “Okay, well this doesn’t count because I clearly don’t want to be having this fight.” They say flatly as the close the box.

mavis had been enjoying her evening stroll in the moonlight. she was enjoying the cool fall breeze now that the season had officially began and the weather was finally changing. she watched as the leaves in the trees began to change hues into beautiful oranges and yellows. soon they would be falling all around. 

she had smelled them from a mile away. the scent of liquor and a saltiness of the sea lingered in the air as she caught a glimpse at them from a slight distance. mavis eyed them carefully as they took stride to her. “lost?” she asked raising a brow. poor soul. she thought to herself. 

“a drink and company?” she asked, more rhetorically than not. what’s the harm she thought. the poor human wreaked and clearly needed someone to make sure they arrived safely at home, “depends on what we’re drinking. but you have yourself a deal.”

Jarrah nodded as their questions were repeated. Unsure how he was expected to react to the neutral response at first until an agreement is struck. “Excellent.” Jarrah said, clapping his hands together. “What would you like to drink? I’m partial to the kind found by the docks, but open to really anything to wash back the taste of salt.”

Belle’s expression turned amused, watching the strange display. “I find it hard to believe that you’d be at sea so much that you don’t know how to walk on land,” she admitted, eyes warming with curiosity. “Are you really like this all the time or is it an act?”

She gestured for them to follow as she started walking, checking her watch one more time. “It was obvious you were looking for something hardier, as you said,” she quipped. Belle furrowed her eyebrows. “No protocol … though I appreciate the question. You can walk alongside me if you want. I just don’t want to be late—” she clutched the book closer to her chest, then lifted it a little for him to see: Daisy Jones & The Six, by Taylor Jenkins Reid. “I’m going to a book club.”

Jarrah snorted, hand carding though his hair as they followed along. “I owe my life to the sea, born on a ship in the middle of a hurricane. Being at sea is pretty much all I have ever known.” He said with a small shrug. “So, I’ll leave it up to you if my behavior is an act.” 

“A book club. How charming.” Jarrah said, keeping in step while ignoring the quip. “What’s it’s about, never heard of it. Though if you’re in a club I suppose that means you haven’t read it yet…” They ran a hand through their hair again as they considered something. “That is the point right? You all sit around and read it together, or is it like one person reads a page and so on. I’ve never actually heard of someone being in a book club, just the concept.”

❝  hell  yeah  we  are !  ❞  alberto  agreed,  enthusiastic  as  ever.  he  was  an  extrovert  to  his  core,  adoring  making  friends  with  strangers,  and  striking  up  conversations, so  he  was  completely  in  his  element.  ❝  captain ?  ❞ alberto  questions.  ❝  sounds  fancy.  captain  of  what ?  ❞   he  lets  jarrah  link  their  arms  together  and  happily  leads  the  way  to  the  bar  that  was  coming  up  ahead.   ❝  i’ll  warn  you.  it  may  not  look  like  much  but  it’s  what’s  on  the  inside  that  counts.  ❞  because  of  course  alberto  was  always  drawn  to  the  most  run  down,  ‘  in  need  of  some  love ‘  bars  that  he  could  find.  it  added  character !! 

“Of a ship?” Jarrah asked, “Wait, are there other things people can be captain of?” He asked as they attempted to think of anything else someone could captain. He let it go for now, pleasantly surprised that their name didn’t strike any sort of memory for Alberto, while also perplexed at the idea of there being other kinds of captains.

“Well maybe I’ll just scoot it more to me but- I meant if what I was working on looked alright.” He corrected the other, already feeling bothersome within the minute. The other came in most likely to enjoy a hot meal and there Jonathan was asking for assistance about a playlist.  “Though that looks good what you got there.” Johnny added as if trying to change the subject. He had finished his snack an hour ago and felt his stomach wanting something more filling. 

“Oh!” Jarrah exclaims, almost spilling his drink with realization. “Oh! I’m sorry! People don’t usually come to me with issues unless they’re at their wits end.” He says with a laugh as they leans in to look at the computer again. Well not before taking a bit of the gumbo. “Oh it truly is, trust I’ve had good gumbo before and this has gone straight to the top.” They say through a few bites. “Now what’s this for?”

the answers flynn would receive to his question had been mixed all night and the quick ‘yes’ placed a grin on his face. he rinsed out the shaker and started pulling out ingredients - juices, lemonade, vodka, the like - and pouring liquids into the container with ice. is it strong ? valid question, but the answer depended on who you asked. flynn smirked.

“it’s even stronger if you order a double,” he pointed out, offering a shrug with his non-answer. “choice is yours.”

“Well well. Aren’t you good at upselling!” Jarrah said as a wide grin spread across his face. “Gotta love a barkeep who knows their people. Make it a double then.”  They say, matching the smirk and quirking an eyebrow.

Jarrah loved watching drinks get made. Never cared to learn the trade himself, but found the skill fascinating nonetheless. He fidgeted in his seat a bit, his thumb spinning his rings as he watched. “Something about you, tell me you know how to read people.” He says, almost to himself, “Though I suppose that must be another bartender skill, savvy?”
