how do you think 049 and 035’s time together would affect their personalities within the foundation in your au compared to their usual characterization? Would they be much the same, nicer, crueler? Would they constantly be trying to escape to see each other again or would do they be smarter than that and bide their time to ensure complete success in that front? Would 049 still murder doctor hamm despite their freindship, would 035 still be fucking with people in sadistic ways? And, if they did get out together, how would they navigate the new modern age?
Well to begin with, Dyo’s own personality changes after Hasel leaves at the start of Arc 2 and starts to become more like the doctor’s. He becomes more serious and less expressive as time goes on, along with his physical attributes shifting to be more like Hasel’s (longer hair, bag, and poncho-like cloak)
(I’m considering giving Dyo a permanently closed eye too, just to highlight the scar and the damage it did, plus it gives me more room to draw facial expressions but lmk what you guys think :3)
However once they reunite in the foundation, Dyo starts to become more expressive again, though it does take him a while.
They do realise that if they escape, they would be spending the rest of their lives on the run away from the foundation, and that life for them could never be the same, so instead they destroy the hanged king + ambassador and continue living in Alagadda in peace as joint leaders.
As I’ve said before, the original concept for my au was that Hasel, Dyo and Lawrence (106) break out of the foundation and rent an appartement and silly hijinks ensue with Hasel and Dyo giving divorced but lowkey still wanting each other sorta vibes. But I moved on from this concept since it was a joint idea with someone else and we stopped writing this series together a few years ago now, so I rewrote everything (all the writing that I’ve done is my own).
I hadn’t actually considered Dr Hamm, I might add him depending on what direction I take, but the interpretation of the foundation in this au is that it’s an unfeeling force of nature as opposed to a company pledged to keep the world safe (since it’s from the perspective of Hasel and Dyo).
049 kills dr Hamm because he believes he’s infected in the original lore, however is seems uncharacteristic for Hasel to do this in my au. However I can absolutely see him doing it on accident, whether he panics and ends up in the grey dimension or if he accidentally touches him with his death hands. Though he did burn down that village because he believed they were infected, and that he had to because the pestilence is his responsibility as his punishment hmm. The causation for the pestilence in my au is just death, and a lot of the time Hasel kills people with the vine, but the reason they died in the first place was because of Hasel, so it creates a paradox (though the vine is also an indicator of recent death or occurring death, not just death to be had).
Dyo doesn’t necessarily mess with people sadistically in my au, he does con others or charm them to his own advantage if he wants to, but he isn’t necessarily evil about it, it’s more focused on his own self interest and self preservation which I feel he loses the more he falls in love with Hasel (The same with Hasel becoming more friendly and open and allowing himself to be happy). Thoug he would definitely regain this aspect of himself once separated from Hasel, so any sort of sadistic nature would sprout from there.
At first Dyo is very explosive and vocal about seeing Hasel for the first time in a hundred years, and does everything in his power to be able to see him, whether it’s begging, bartering or brute force. Once Hasel left, the emotional distress unlocks Dyo’s abilities more, and they strengthen again once the connection to Alagadda is restored (though he isn’t 100% until he gets his original body back) so he does have more physical strength in the foundation as compared to the story as I’m writing it now.
Hasel on the other hand pretends like he doesn’t know him, and any evidence of the two being in contact with each other in the past is covered up by lies from Hasel. The entire reason he left was that he accidentally hurt Dyo (hence the scar) and deemed himself too dangerous, so he left believing he was saving him. Because of this is makes the most sense for Hasel to pretend not to know him, as it lessens the potential for the foundation to hurt Dyo or torture him for information.
Though later on Dyo eventually confronts Hasel and he realises that he actually did way more damage by not talking to Dyo, and that the emotional turmoil he put him through was ten times worse to him than being scarred.
After this I feel Dyo would follow Hasel’s behaviour in pretending not to know each other to improve their chances at escaping through the portal, and the same would go for Lawrence after he aids in their escape. Lawrence helping them isn’t necessarily personal, he’s just doing it because he enjoys the chaos (in the least edgy way I can put this 😭) and likes messing with the foundation, as he’s aware they could never truly contain him since he can just break out whenever he wants.
