Time continued to creep by in the HYBE building.
After the excitement of the production meeting, the rest of the morning had been considerably less glamorous.
For the past few hours, you'd been tucked away in the now somewhat familiar confines of your little office, working your way through what felt like an endless list of onboarding tasks. Setting up your company email, activating your employee accounts, signing into various internal systems, changing temporary passwords, and completing mandatory online training had taken far longer than you'd anticipated.
You hadn't realised just how much administration came with starting a new job.
With a quiet sigh, you leaned back in your chair, rolling your shoulders in an attempt to ease the stiffness that had settled there.
Your eyes drifted to your phone lying beside the keyboard.
Picking it up, you glanced at the lock screen. A cute picture of you and Ha-Na illuminated.
Your stomach chose that exact moment to remind you that you'd barely eaten anything since breakfast.
Surely I'm allowed a lunch break by now...
You frowned thoughtfully. No one had actually mentioned when you were supposed to take one.
The morning had been packed with introductions, paperwork, meetings, and settling in, but after that, everyone had simply... gone back to work.
You were still learning how everything operated here.
The company itself felt like a small city, with hundreds of employees moving through the building as though they'd memorised every corridor, every schedule, and every unwritten rule. You, on the other hand, still wasn't entirely convinced you could find your own office without getting lost.
There was no doubt HYBE expected a high level of professionalism. Confidentiality, security, and respect had all been emphasised repeatedly throughout the morning.
But when it came to the smaller things, nobody had mentioned a thing.
You glanced towards the office door before looking back at your phone. And sharply stood up on your two feet.
I guess we can explore. The voice in your head loudly spoke.
surely there would be a canteen somewhere? In a building like this there was no way there wouldn't be.
You stepped out of your office, slipping your employee lanyard over your head before locking the door behind you.
The corridor was almost eerily quiet.
Compared to the floors you'd visited that morning, where employees hurried from meeting to meeting with coffee cups in hand, this one felt almost deserted. Apart from the occasional person disappearing into an office, there wasn't much movement at all.
Maybe this floor's mainly for private offices...
Making your way to the lifts, you pressed the call button and waited. A softย dingย echoed through the corridor as the doors slid open.
Stepping inside, your eyes travelled over the panel of buttons. Twenty-four floors.
You had absolutely no idea where anything was. Middle sounds good...
Your finger hovered for a second before pressingย 12.
As the lift began its ascent, a familiar melody drifted from the speakers overhead. You couldn't stop yourself from smiling.
A quiet laugh escaped you. Of course they'd only play HYBE artists.
The song continued softly in the background until the lift slowed to a halt.
Within half a second, you knew you'd made a mistake.
Beyond the lift stretched an enormous open-plan office packed with row after row of desks separated by glass dividers. Shelves overflowing with files lined the walls, while dozens of employees typed away at keyboards or hurried between departments carrying stacks of paperwork.
Directly outside the lift, two employees stood in the middle of what appeared to be a rather passionate disagreement. Neither of them spared so much as a glance in your direction.
You remained frozen for a moment, feeling as though you'd accidentally walked into somewhere you definitely wasn't supposed to be.
"...Nope." You jabbed theย Close Doorย button perhaps a little too enthusiastically.
The doors slid shut just as one of the employees threw their hands dramatically into the air.
Scanning the panel once more, your finger landed on another random choice.
Maybe I'll have better luck. A few seconds later, the lift chimed once again.
The doors opened onto a noticeably quieter floor.
Dark grey carpet stretched beneath your feet, contrasting against sleek charcoal walls and long strips of warm lighting recessed into the ceiling. The atmosphere felt calmer here, almost secluded from the bustle of the rest of the building.
There was no reception desk. No clusters of employees. Just a wide corridor branching off in several directions. You stepped out cautiously.
Probably no cafรฉ here either... Still... You'd already come this far.
Might as well have a little look around.
The further you wandered, the quieter it became.
Most of the doors were closed, each bearing simple silver plaques with room numbers or department names you didn't recognise.
Every so often, someone would pass by, offering a polite nod before continuing on their way.
Then something peeked your attention. You heard a soft melody playing in the distance
You frowned slightly, tilting your head as the muffled bass drifted through the corridor.
Curiosity got the better of you.
The music grew louder with every step until you found yourself standing outside a pair of large frosted glass doors.
Unlike the offices you'd passed, these had narrow windows running down either side.
The music was definitely coming from inside.
You hesitated. I probably shouldn't...
Your curiosity won almost immediately.
Taking one careful step closer, you leaned ever so slightly towards the narrow strip of glass.
Inside, a spacious dance studio stretched across the room, floor-to-ceiling mirrors reflecting the bright overhead lights. Bags and water bottles had been abandoned against one wall, while the polished wooden floor bore faint scuff marks from countless hours of rehearsals.
The music came to an abrupt stop.
"...Again tomorrow?" someone called from inside.
"Yeah." Another voice answered.
Your eyes widened. Oh no... Your heart immediately leapt into your throat.
Before your brain had a chance to decide whether to run or pretend you'd simply taken a wrong turn, the handle began to turn.
The door slowly swung open.
You froze beside the door, your entire body locking in place as the first person stepped out.
His hair was damp with sweat, a towel slung loosely around his neck. He glanced at you briefly as he walked past, offering the smallest nod in acknowledgement before continuing down the corridor as though seeing unfamiliar staff outside the practice rooms was nothing out of the ordinary.
You barely had time to process it before Taehyung emerged next.
His oversized T-shirt clung slightly to his back, evidence of however long they'd been rehearsing. Catching your eye, he offered a polite smile and a small bow before following after Yoongi without another word.
You let out the breath you'd been holding.
Then Jimin and Hoseok stepped out together. Unlike the others, they stopped. Both of them looked at you with matching expressions of surprise.
"O?" Hoseok tilted his head, a curious smile spreading across his face.
Jimin's eyes widened in recognition. "Oh!" he laughed softly. "It's you again."
You immediately bowed your head. "I'm so sorrโ"
Another voice called from inside the practice room. Jungkook stepped through the doorway, absent-mindedly drying the back of his neck with a towel.
He stopped mid-sentence the moment he noticed everyone had come to a standstill.
His gaze travelled from Jimin.....to Hoseok...before finally settling on you.
Fuck. This is so embarrassing.
As if the situation couldn't become any worse, Namjoon and Jin appeared behind him.
"Why are you all just standingโ" Namjoon paused the moment he spotted you.
The corridor suddenly felt impossibly small.
You swallowed. "I'm... really sorry," you blurted out before anyone else could speak. "I know I'm probably not supposed to be here." You rubbed the back of your neck nervously. "I was just trying to find somewhere to eat my lunch." Your eyes getting the floor "I... don't actually know where anything is yet." You gave another apologetic bow. "I had no idea this was the practice floor."
For a second, nobody said anything. Then Jin looked up at the sign mounted high on the wall beside the studio doors before looking back at you. "...You mean you missed the giant sign?"
Your eyebrows knitted together. "The sign?"
He pointed behind you. Instinctively, you turned around.
Mounted neatly on the charcoal wall in large brushed silver letters were the words:
Your eyes slowly closed. ...Oh.
A tiny laugh escaped Jin.Unsure if he was mocking you or found it amusing. "It is pretty hard to miss." He added sarcastically
Heat rushed straight to your cheeks. "I genuinely didn't even see it I promise-" Your wobbly voice spoke out
Jimin let out a laugh, shoulders shaking slightly. "I believe you."
They definitely think I'm some obsessed fan pretending to be lost.
Before your thoughts could spiral any further, Jungkook finally spoke.
"Aish..." He glanced between you and Jin before giving a small shake of his head. "Hyung..." A faint smile tugged at the corner of his mouth. "It's her first day."
The teasing immediately softened. Jin lifted both hands in surrender, smiling. "I know, I know...I'm only joking."
There was an awkward pause of silence before Namjoon quickly clapped his hands together. "So you are trying to find somehwere for lunch?"
"Well..." he glanced briefly at the others before looking back at you. "We're actually on our lunch break too."
You waited, unsure where he was going with this."Would you like to come with us?"
The invitation seemed to catch a couple of the others off guard too. Hoseok shot a quick glance towards Jin, who subtly raised an eyebrow before looking back at Namjoon. Neither of them said anything, though their expressions suggested the idea hadn't exactly been discussed beforehand.
You hesitated. You didn't want to impose.
"I mean..." You shifted your weight awkwardly. "Are you sure I wouldn't just be getting in the way?"
Before Namjoon had a chance to answer, Jungkook beside him gave a small shake of his head.
"It won't be a hassle." Namjoon's reply was quiet and matter-of-fact, almost as though he couldn't understand why you'd even ask.
Namjoon smiled again. "We've got a couple of hours before we're needed back anyway."
Jimin nodded in agreement.
"And it'd probably save you another twenty minutes of wandering around the building."
A few quiet laughs followed.
You couldn't exactly argue with that. "...Okay." You smiled at the boys. "If you're sure."
"Come on then," Namjoon said, turning towards the lifts.
The group began walking down the corridor together.
As you reached the elevators, Jungkook looked around, frowning slightly. "...Where did Taehyung disappear to?"
The others exchanged brief looks before collectively shrugging.
"I think he left with Yoongi a few minutes ago," you offered. "I saw them head towards the lifts."
"Ah." Jungkook gave a short nod, slipping his phone back into his pocket. "They've probably already gone down."
The elevator arrived with a soft chime. Its doors slid open, and everyone filed inside one after another.
You were the last to step in. The moment the doors closed, you became painfully aware of just how full the lift was.
You found yourself tucked into one corner, your back lightly brushing against the mirrored wall. Namjoon stood beside the control panel, while Hoseok and Jimin chatted quietly near the doors.
Jin absent-mindedly scrolled through his phone.
Jungkook stood almost directly opposite you, one hand resting against the rail behind him as the lift began its descent.
Thankfully, Jimin broke the silence by asking Namjoon something about the afternoon's schedule, and the conversation quickly spread through the lift.
You let out the smallest sigh of relief as the elevator continued its descent.
Floor seven. Right... remember that. You made a mental note to yourself. At least now you knew a floor to eat lunch on.
A softย dingย echoed through the lift.
The doors slid open, and everyone gradually stepped out.
Namjoon led the way, with Jin, Hoseok and Jimin naturally falling into conversation as they headed down the corridor. None of them seemed particularly concerned with whether you were walking beside them or a few steps behind.
But you preferred it that way. You didn't have to worry about making conversation or saying the wrong thing every five seconds.
As you stepped clear of the elevator, you instinctively moved to one side.
"After you." The quiet voice came from beside you. Jungkook stood to the side of the elevator door.
"Thank you." You quickly smiled
He gave a small nod before following after you. For a few moments, the two of you walked in comfortable silence.
"You said it's your first day." His voice broke the quiet. "What are you actually starting as?"
You glanced sideways, surprised he'd even bother too speak to you "A makeup artist." Your answer came with a small smile.
You deliberately kept it brief, not wanting your excitement to spill over. The last thing you wanted was to come across as someone who couldn't stay professional simply because she was talking to the Jeon Jungkook.
He nodded thoughtfully. "So... you'll be working with us?"
"I think so." You finally looked over at him. "I was in the meeting this morning, so I'm assuming I'll be part of your team."
"Ah." He tucked his hands into the pocket of his oversized hoodie. "That makes sense."
There was a short pause before he spoke again. "Jimin's makeup artist actually left a few weeks ago." He paused. "Maybe you'll be her replacement?" He spoke, more like a question than an answer
You gave a small shrug. "I'm not really sure yet." A quiet laugh escaped you. "I still don't even know where I'm supposed to be half the time."
"I think this afternoon I'm meant to meet with someone called Minji..." You searched your memory. "She said she'd comeby and find me later in my office to explain everything properly."
At the mention of her name, Jungkook nodded. "Ah... Minji-ssi." A look of recognition crossed his face. "She's nice, if she's looking after you, you'll settle in quickly." he nodded, now looking at the back of the heads of the members walking in front of you
The corridor gradually widened as the smell of freshly cooked food drifted towards you.
After a moment's hesitation, your curiosity got the better of you. "Is it okay if I ask why Jimin-ssi's makeup artist left?" The words had barely left your mouth before regret settled in.
You shook your head. "I'm sorry." You internally cursed yourself. once.again. "You don't have to answer that...I probably shouldn't have asked." Your voice low, dripping with guilt
Jungkook let out a quiet laugh. "No, it's alright." He shook his head reassuringly. "You've signed all the confidentiality paperwork now."He smiled to himself. Before shooting a glance in your direction, "I hope?" He smiled, you knew he was being sarcastic, but you still felt the need to reassure him.
"Yes! Of course.." You awkwardly laughed
He hummed and gave a slight nod at your answer. "it's actually quite an unusual story."
You looked at him curiously.
"She'd worked with us for years," he explained. "Since around theย Boy With Luvย era."
You nodded, listening carefully.
"A few weeks ago she handed in her notice. None of us knew though, she kept it a secret till the day she walked out the doors," He glanced ahead to make sure the others were still out of earshot before lowering his voice slightly.
"Before she left, she told Jimin that she'd developed feelings for him."
Your eyes widened. "Oh..."
"But she handled it professionally." He added, "There was no expectation that he'd say anything back." He shook his head. "She just wanted to be honest before she left. She told him not to feel guilty, asked him not to respond, thanked him for the years they'd worked together..."
A small smile tugged at the corner of his mouth. "...and then she walked away before he could even process what had happened."
For a moment, you weren't sure what to say.
You'd always known that working so closely with famous artists could blur boundaries for some people.
Still...Hearing it happen to someone who'd worked beside them for years made it feel strangely real.
"What did Jimin-ssi think?"
Jungkook exhaled softly. "He was surprised. said he'd never seen it coming."
There was a brief pause."But he respected how she handled it."
You nodded slowly. Your heart ached just a little for the woman. It must've been so hard for her to gather the courage and express her feelings like that.
"I suppose that must've been difficult for both of them." You tried to respond with professionalism.
"Mmm" Jungkook nodded in agreement.
The conversation naturally faded as the group reached the entrance to the staff canteen.
The others had stopped just outside, waiting for everyone to catch up before heading inside together.
Employees moved around the canteen with trays in their hands, chatting amongst themselves as they decided what to eat. The large selection of meals stretched across the counters, making the decision seem almost impossible.
Apparently, even for them.
"Jungkook-ah!" Hoseok walked over to the younger man, who was standing in front of the food counter, scanning the options. "What are you going to eat?" He looked genuinely defeated. "I can't decide."
A small laugh escaped you before you could stop it.
It was oddly comforting seeing that even they struggled with something as simple as choosing lunch.
of course you had seen BTS on your television screen multiple times. Living in Korea for a while had meant you weren't really able to escape them at times. Billboards of their faces where practically everywhere you looked. Especially since the day they left the military. Once again, BTS had been the hot topic on everyone's tongue.
But seeing the boys in person, no camera's seen anywhere, and they still had the exact dynamic? really warmed your heart.
Jungkook stared at the menu above the counter, his eyebrows slightly furrowed as he considered his options. "Hmm..." His eyes moved between the different dishes. "Kimchi, I think."
He nodded to himself, as if he'd finally made an important decision.
"I'll probably have that too." Jimin appeared behind him, resting his hands lightly against Jungkook's shoulders as he looked over the choices.
"You always pick the same things." Namjoon chuckled.
"Jungkookie has good taste!" Jimin laughed. Jungkook just shrugged, probably used to the glaze..
The woman behind the counter smiled politely as she began preparing their meals.
Hoseok, meanwhile, still looked completely lost. "Aish..." He stared at the food options in front of him like they had personally offended him. "Why is this so difficult?"
"You are acting like we don't do this nearly everyday" Jin called from behind him.
You found yourself smiling quietly as you watched them.
Namjoon eventually stepped forward, ordering grilled meat along with a few side dishes.
One by one, the others made their choices.
Then came Hoseok's turn. Finally... You watched curiously as he confidently pointed towards his final selection.
Only for everyone around him to immediately react.
"That?" Jin looked at him, almost disgusted "You're actually choosing that?"
Hoseok looked offended. "What's wrong with it?"
"It's just..." Jin shook his head, laughing.
You couldn't help the small giggle that escaped you. You quickly covered it with your hand, hoping nobody noticed.
Once everyone had finished ordering, you stepped forward. You looked over the options briefly before choosing something simple. "Could I have a small portion of potato salad, please?"
The woman behind the counter nodded and prepared your tray.
Before you could step away, Jimin glanced down at your food. His eyebrows lifted slightly. "That's all you're having?"
"You should eat more than that." He spoke with a comforting tone "You don't want to get hungry later." The softness in his voice caught you slightly off guard.
"Thank you," you replied quietly. You offered him a small smile. "Really. But I'm not that hungry."
You gave a small polite bow of your head.
Jimin studied you for a second, like he wanted to say something else, but eventually decided against it. Instead, he simply nodded. "Okay."
You gathered your tray, following the group towards the seating area. Before everyone sat down, you turned back towards them.
"Thank you all for showing me where the canteen is." You gave a small bow. "I appreciate it."
Immediately, they all waved their hands dismissive. Letting you know it wasn't a big deal.
But to you it was one of the biggest deals on earth. How could it not be?
You gave one more goodbye before searching for a table far from the five boys. Of course not out of malice. But because truthfully you weren't sure if you could deal with the pressure of ganging out with five world wide global pop stars.
You better get used to this Y/n.. Your literally about ti start working with them! Your thoughts twirled around in your overstimulated mind.
