My name
â itâs okay to be confused . nobody has all the answers . â
Dory whispered softly. "Like how I found out my name isn't really Dory but Dorothea. I know I was pretty confused as well. I'm also moving out of my apartment and into a mansion. My...mother made me pasta for the first time. I never had pasta before."

Alice waited for Doryâs apparent rudeness, and was pleasantly surprised when the idea wasnât rude at all. âI think that sounds like a brilliant idea!â Alice replied enthusiastically. âI donât think it would be rude at all. At least, not if youâre giving it to people who know you. And if you donât know them, then it just seems like some sort of very interesting introduction.â
Alice shook their head, laughing in embarrassment. Alice wasnât sick, but they were terribly careless. âNo, no, Iâm not sick,â they explained. âI just have the tendency to get myself into bother sometimes. Mia says Iâm scatterbrained and not very observant, which⌠well, I suppose sheâs right. The ER staff are never surprised to see me.â
âYou do?â Dory said with a tilt of her head. It was better than to forget people completely but she didnât like the idea of someone thinking it is an offensive thing. Dory wasnât good at handling angry people, because she would simply forget they were mad at her. She guessed Alice made a point.
âI donât really understand what you mean? Isnât the hospital for people who are hurt or sick?âÂ
aliceinandromedaâ:
Alice listened with fascination as Dory rhymed off the names of all the seahorses in the aquarium. After the third name, Alice began to count them on their fingers, smile growing the more Dory named. âThatâs fourteen more names you remember,â Alice said. âIf itâs easier to remember things youâve named yourself, why donât you give everyone else new names? Nicknames. I like to make up the names of strangers when Iâm sitting in the cafe, though I donât usually tell them their new names because I donât have to.â It was a suggestion that Alice wasnât sure would work, but thought it was an interesting idea nonetheless.
âI wouldnât mind going at all,â Alice replied with a shrug. âIâve visited the hospital so many times that it doesnât bother me at all. Plus, I like asking the doctors questions too. And, of course, it would help you.â
âI donât want to come across as rude...â Cause that wasnât who Dory was - after all not intentially, she might have been rude on accident. Like by forgetting peopleâs names but that was just due to health related issues. She didnât want to upset people by giving them nicknames. âMaybe I can give people some name tag gifts?â At least she would be able to remember it then, but it would be expensive and itâll mean less bread for her to eat.Â
âOh are you sick as well? Since you visited the hospital a lot. Oh...that might have been a bit out of line, itâs not my business after all.â She bowed her head apologetically.

Alice watched Doryâs fingers, counting along in their head as she did so. Seven seemed a lot of medicine to take, and Alice imagined it wasnât very pleasant to do so either. âSeven Swimming Seahorses,â Alice sang, recalling that Dory worked at the aquarium. âI suppose three names is better than no names, isnât it? And you remember your own. That makes four!â
Aliceâs smile turned upside down at Doryâs explanation. âWow⌠I see why youâre scared. That sounds very uncomfortable. Itâs a shame they canât just zap it with a laser, isnât it?â Alice sighed a little, realising they might have been leading the subject into a worse territory. âDonât you have friends to go with you? I could go, if you remember to ask. I think hospitals are fascinating.â
âWe got a lot of seahorses in the aquarium. Coral, Ocean, Hali, Scales, Sippy and Sescon, stormy, Sheldon, herald and skipper, Gary, Ingrid, blinky, and Lenny. The owner lets me name the fish.â She said with a bright smile. âI wish I could remember the names of people as good as I do with fish, but I guess itâs because I named them themselves itâs easier to remember.â Like how she could remember the nicknames she gave people rather than the names people had.
She nodded. âYeah, it would be a lot easier that way.â Her eyes fell on the ground. âMelvin has a lot of work, and heâs busy with his son. I donât want to scare Nemo so there isnât anyone else. Well, maybe Minnie... But I havenât asked her yet.â She blinked. âYouâd do that?â
Home Sweet Home.
Dory and Minnieâs friendship was definitely unexpected but not one that she didnât see coming even in the near future, the girl was so lost and so timid that Minnie couldnât help but feel slightly maternal towards the other, wanting to make sure that she got to places and that she didnât get lost or left behind because if she did then Minnie knew it would be on her conscience and she couldnât have that. Which is why she wanted she wanted to invite her over to her house, get to know her more, allow the other to be more comfortable with her so that she was able to be in her life a little more without everything feeling so awkward and rigid. But before she could do that she needed to attend class because thatâs what a twenty two year old had been doing for the last couple of months or so.Â
But when the bell rang she was out of there and in her car, making sure that she looked fresh and in good graces to pick Dory up because heavens knew if she tried to do this on her own, she would probably get lost or end up somewhere completely different and Minnie would probably have to go get her anyways, so this option was probably better for both of them;Â âLong time no seeâ she joked as she allowed the other to get into her car heading in the direction of her home;Â âHow was the rest of the day, hopefully not too full on for youâ smiling and making small talk as she finally reached the destination of her humble abode, clicking a button that would open the garage door to her mansion;Â âSo this is where I liveâ she chuckled lightly;Â âDonât worry Iâll give you a tour when we get insideâ { @xmissdorybluexâ }
Dory got to know Minnie as bottle girl, the girl who helped her out when she had an attack and was in dire need of help. After that, she began to notice her every time her pathâs crossed. surely it wasnât often. But it was often enough to change something within Dory. She started to feel nervous when she was with her, her cheeks stained a soft pink. She tried harder to stay focused when she was with Minnie because she didnât want to forget a lot of things. And slowly but steady she started to want to see her more often, look forward in seeing her. Her stomach started to clench. And it happened earlier today too. So she began to get worried. Was she allergic to Minnie? Could that be possible?
She called Melvin and explained the situation. The words he told her made her feel rather conflicted but she was happy enough that it wasnât an allergy. It was a crush. Dory had a crush on Minnie. And now her heart was pounding the moment her bell rang. âOh-oh.â She said before grabbing her bag, she read the sticky notes another time and checked if she had everything. Id? Check. Her bread? Check. It was even in a bag. She didnât take her milk with her, she probably could eat the bread just dry. She took some money with her, not much because she still needed to buy some bread for next week. Some sticky notes and a few pens. Surely she had everything?
Okay, she really couldnât make Minnie wait any longer so she hurried to the door. âWas it?â She said with a frown. Did she imagine meeting her today? Oh, no now she was confused. âWe did meet today, right?â She carefully asked. Her cheeks already turned into a lobster red. âNot really, I just prepared my dinner and called Melvin. Nemo didnât want to do his homework again.â She shrugged. Â
âOh wow itâs so big, your garden is like a hundred times my apartment,â Dory said in awe. âOh, a tour! Iâd love a tour!â
It was too nice of a day to not be outside. Fields had set up camp under a tree in a park, text books spread around her and a sketchbook in hand. Numbers and formulas had spun in her head for days and it was time to put some of it to paper, at least what she wanted the outcome to look like. She was feeling inspired.
Fields noticed a shadow across her books and hastily started pulling them back together for two reasons; she didnât want to be in the way mostly, but she also didnât want anyone really putting together what she was doing, âAm I in your spot? I can move.â
Dory wondered if the woman was in her spot. âI donât know.â She pointed out. âI was just looking at the flower behind you.â She said softly before pointing at the dandelion behind the stranger. âItâs a wishing flower and I wanted to do a wish.â She said with a soft smile. A wish for surgery to happen.Â
âWhat are you doing?â She asked curiously. She didnât get many workdays lately because the boss seeing that Dory wasnât really being her usual smiling self. And they felt like Dory deserved a break. She spends her days cuddling Bruce, her stuffed animal shark. But the thoughts remained cloudy, well as long as they lingered.

âOh but of course, do you need help with anything else at the moment?â Minnie wanted to make sure that Dory was okay before leaving her because there was no way that she could just say her goodbyes and continue on with her day or else the cute little blonde would be on her mind; âYeah like a visit, I would feel much more comfortable if you came with me and then maybe I can drop you off later if youâd like, no pressure though, I donât want to make you do something you werenât comfortable doingâ smiling in her direction.Â
Dory wasnât sure what she needed help with, her problems tended to be easily forgotten. But she was quite certain she did have some food at her place so it wasnât groceries. âI donât think so?â If she needed help it certainly would pop in her head later. As most things did. âA visit sounds fun, aside from Melvin no one has ever invited me into their house before. And Melvin only asked to keep Nemo busy when he was younger.â Never truly as a friend, which was a pity since they were friends for so long. âSure that sounds fun to me.â She repeated, forgetting she already called the idea fun.Â
aliceinandromedaâ:
âHow much medicine do you have to take?â Alice asked without thinking, only realising after that it might be a rather invasive question. They were sometimes too curious for their own good. âAnd what names have you remembered so far? You should write them down, so you donât forget again.â
Alice frowned a little as Dory mentioned the surgery, and couldnât help but feel sorry for the woman. âWhy isnât it possible? Perhaps they need to go in a different way. Like through your nose, like the Egyptians.â
Dory zoned out for a minute before counting on her fingers before holding seven fingers up. âSeven.â from painkillers to medicine that was supposed to lighten the pressure on her brain. She frowned once again trying to think about some names she had been remembering: âNemo, Melvin, and Alice.â She tried. She still confused Minnie with Bottle girl sometimes.Â
âThey think if they remove it there is a too high risk for brain damage, and bleeding. Which got me scared and against the procedure. Itâs scary going to the hospital alone every time.â

Minnie wasnât doing anything these days, she did have school but for right now she was in after hours and Dory came first at least for her, she didnât feel right just leaving her on her own. Almost like if a puppy was injured on the side of the road, it just wasnât right to leave it there when it needed help; âOf course, you know that even though we havenât known each other very long doesnât mean I wonât ever help you when you need itâ
And she meant that, Minnie didnât need to know someone for two years to want or feel the need to help the other person and right now she was quite protective over the other; âI will put this in my calendar for you so that I remember too and I will come with you, but right now do you need to go somewhere? If not did you want to come to mine?â it wasnât too far from here.
Dory didnât do anything special either, she went to work. Did groceries when she needed to, and her doctor was pushing her lately to have a nurse come over. But it simply was too expensive. It was no lie that Dory wasnât well off, she struggled with a lot of things, but never in her mind did she think of asking for help. She wasnât used to it, and no one taught her it was something she could do. So when Minnie proposed to help her, she felt happy. âThank you.â She said softly, a light blush crawling on her face.Â
She wasnât used to people caring for her, Malvin cared but he wasnât around often. The same thing with Nemo. She shook her head. âNo, I finished work. Oh, like a visit?â

Minnie nodded and listened intently, she did that because she felt somewhat protective over the other, she didnât know if they were younger but it didnât matter because she just wanted to take care of her;Â âThatâs terrible I am so sorry to hear that, look I am going to write down my number for you and put it in your pocket when we get to the hospital so that you can call me whenever you need me okay?â she remembered some what from their last encounter that the other wasnât all that great with remembering things so she had to try and come up with ways for the other to absorb the information she was given her;Â âOf course I would, do you know when your appointment is?â
It was quite unsettling how much help she needed, despite being 28 years old already. Yet, she also didnât really have anyone that took care of her, ever since she had been small she had been alone. At least she couldnât remember that not being the case. âThat would help me a lot, these talks are super complicated and they really take forever cause I have to do a lot of tests as well.â Not that she remembered most of them at the end of the day, but they were unpleasant to undergo alone. She pondered for a moment before remembering she still had her notebook with her. She quickly flipped through it%. âIâve written it down, itâs next week on Saturday.â

Minnie was so concerned for the other, not because of her thinking she was odd or even weird but just for her health issues that she said she had;Â âMy my you have a lot going on, but would you like me to come to the hospital with you? I feel kind of sad and bad if you would have to go on your ownâ Minnie linking her arm through Doryâs feeling kind of protective of her in a way just wanting to make sure that she was okay and that she wasnât alone or feeling alone. She never wanted anyone to feel that way.
Dory nodded. âYeah, and a lot of headaches too, but they did give me medication for that.â There was a lot of pressure on her skull so they gave her some medication to help with that. âWould you? That would help me a lot because sometimes I forget these details if I havenât written them down.â She had no parents to ask these things, and Melvin had his hands full with Nemo.Â
