daemoniumsanguine came by “That…              was awesome! You totally saved my life!”

Usually the response he got for saving someone’s life was, ‘what the hell was that!?’ or, ‘what kind of freak are you!?’ It was rare to get a, ‘that was awesome!’ and Sam couldn’t help the amused smile as he turned to face the woman he’d just saved.

“Oh, it was nothing, but thanks. Are you okay?”

“I’m Piper…Green…as the neonsign suggests.” Piper smiled. She liked the girl and it didn’t matter giving her the tee for free. “Don’t worry about that… well, I could use some more coworkers here. The thing is, I couldn’t pay you either.” Piper lived for the bar. She slept in one of the backrooms behind it. Suddenly, she had an idea and just as she wanted to tell the other girl, she closed her mouth again. She wanted to suggest Sam a place to sleep for some work. But wouldn’t that be a litle intrusive? “Um, but if you want to do some unsalaried work for a place to chill…” screw intrusive, I’m asking it.

Sam did not quite care to be paid - she would never be able to get a job, even if she tried. People want to know who you are. It’s been such a long time but she is still wanted by the police. Often times she wished she had the power to just erase everybody’s minds, change her records and just start new. Unfortunately, that is rather far-fetched. She just needs to keep waiting; time is on her side. 

But that was unexpected. For someone living on the streets, it was the offer of a lifetime. A place to chill, some company and she would only assume that food and drinks would be part of the deal. All that just for helping out?

Briefly her face had brightened in awe, and just as quickly crashed into a pout. Just like that she went from offer of a lifetime to unsure. This woman knows absolutely nothing about her but is willing to give her a place to stay just for a little extra help around the bar? 

“I don’t know.” Her words are rushed. She takes a quick sip of the tea and places the cup down gently. How long would she be able to keep everything about who or what she is, a secret? Especially with Aiden. He is not exactly the greatest roommate; he may be a spirit but he gets bored. Hiding is no fun. “I just - I mean you don’t even know anything about me, so, and I don’t know anything about you, either.”

  “Ssshhit…” Piper let herself sink into a booth.   The bar had been closed for an hour, but she   let her evening fade out with Elijah. “How come…   every time you’re here, I empty a complete bottle   of this…shit?” she laughed, holding up her gin.

Elijah laughs a bit as he listened to her, cocking an eyebrow at her words. “It’s because I drink about that amount, if not more, and you have to catch up?” he suggests, shifting to take  another drink of the liquor he had, straight from the bottle (which he paid for).

Piper shook her head, her dreadlocks almost drowning  in her glass. “How can you...” she took off her glasses and frowned “...can’t fuckin’ see... so seriously, how do you drink that much all the time? Steel kidney?” she asked and got up to refill her plastic waterbottle imagening what must’ve happened in Elijah’s life .

Cara couldn’t remember the last time that she ate. A not uncommon issue for her, especially when she became wrapped up in a job. But the hunt was over, and she knew it was best for her to grab some food before hitting the road again. So she found the nearest bar and perched on an empty stool, pulling out The Complete Poems of Emile Nelligan as she patiently waited for the busy bar tender to approach her.
