But it's also made me think about a lot more of the interpersonal relationships. My fellow nerds gush over Hush, and Dent, and when Bruce/Batman puts trust in someone and is ultimately betrayed, and how much that has changed him. But Long Halloween has me thinking about Jim Gordon.

It wasn't just the Dark Knight and the White Knight, it was also the commissioner. They were a trio, their own trinity of Justice, 3 musketeers on a righteous path.

Batman is betrayed, but so is Gordon. Gordon must know who Bruce is (explicitly in year one, wherever that falls in canon), so every time that "Bruce Wayne" is framed in his public persona, does more doubt fall on Batman? Does "Jimbo" question every cop and attorney after even Dent -the only one who could do no wrong- falls short? When Bullock gets rough, does he worry how far he'll go? When Montoya is keeping a secret, how can he know it's innocent? But he keeps going, as a clean cop and a good man, he fights through the bad days so he can build a future for his children. That's why I have a hard time with Gotham by Gaslight (I love it so much all the same), because Gordon should always be the one unwavering normal person.
