it makes me so mad to think that ilya is actually an affectionate person but after his mother’s death he had to bottle his desires and act as if he wasn’t yearning to touch, to bond, to love. the only way he gets to channel some of that desire is the meaningless sex he has. that’s it, until he meets shane, and even when their relationship is reduced to occasional sex encounters, he is kissing him hard, praising him and exploring every inch of his body in an almost desperate way. he is yearning to love him, and be loved in return.

Ilya continues to get tattoos throughout his life, some meaningful some just aesthetic. Shane only ever gets one tattoo, a small and simple Lily.
