The Plumber and Peach Spectre say greetings from Gen Con! Just finished up Day 1; tried to find parking for about half an hr, followed by walking the con center, waiting for the Will Call Badge line to die down. After we grabbed lunch from the food trucks, we grabbed our badges and wandered through the exhibition hall. Now for the detail work! The major construction of the rifle is complete, and now it's on to the fun part! I decided for the visible elements of the barrel to simply add them to the outside; inaccurate, but much much easier to build and way less likely to affect structural rigidity. Plus, adding detail elements to a surface is way simpler than trying to whittle them into said surface. And part 2 of the previous post! After the flashlight adventure was over I went back to foam and knocked out the top of the rear stock, which I'm really happy with. The detail work came out very nice, and it looks bumpy in the photos but trust me the foam is baby smooth. Also ended up doing a dry fit of the flashlight! Since it's already the color it needs to be I won't be adding it until the rest of the gun is finished. Michael reporting in! :D Took a break from the foam this evening to attend to an important part: The tactical flashlight up front. I found a pack of these flashlights at Walmart with batteries included for $12. Perfect for something I need to destroy immediately. In this case all I really had to do was solder a wire to the rear of the battery pack and then attach a wire to the back end of the flashlight. The first was easy and took 5 mins. The second was near impossible and took an hour to riddle out, but eventually I got it. By doing it this way I can then unscrew the front of the flashlight and pull out the battery pack to swap batteries. More Halo assault rifle progress! :D Assault Rifle WIP More assault rifle progress! As I think I mentioned this is going to be a "Cadillac" build for me, I want all the bells and whistles I can possibly cram into this thing to be in the final project. For this particular update, you can get a look at preparing for the flashlight. Any good tactical light on a sci-fi gun isn't activated at the light, it works with the switch on the side, near the trigger. To that end while preparing the middle of the body, one side was glued permanently, and the other side has a removable panel that attaches with a couple of screws. This will allow me to run a switch wire from the flashlight up front to the trigger area of the gun so it can be remotely operated. Additionally, I'll probably use the space in the center as a storage compartment for a 9V battery to operate the ammo display. #halo #halo5guardians #assaultrifle #masterchief #john117 #halocosplay #pillarofdawnstudios

been so long since I originally played Halo and I've never once built an Assault Rifle. Now that I have Chief armor that I'm more or less happy with, it seems long past time to right this terrible wrong. I've started with a solid PVC barrel that runs the length of the gun, along with a spring-loaded bolt action for a little fun, and a removable ammo clip. Tonight I finished the construction of the lower rear, which had been giving me fits as to how to go about building it. Eventually I just said screw it and dove in, and ended up fixing multiple screw-ups during but overall I'm extremely happy. #halo #halo5guardians #haloassaultrifle #masterchief #spartans #unsc #oni #343i

And the Misato jacket commission is complete! Such a great learning experience, since I'm usually used to creating costumes not based on real clothing. ;) Top-stitched seams, cotton spandex lining, and zippers! Plus, I added magnetic snaps to the collar.
