“Hey, hey, hey!” the ace called out, walking up to the booth you were tucked into at the coffee shop where you worked.

“You’re late!” you teased him with a smirk as he came to stand by your table.

“You’re right,” he said, grinning wickedly, taking your hand and pulling you out of the booth. “I should have asked you out sooner.” He pulled you to your feet, all energy and eagerness, but stopped you short, his face inches from yours. You held your breath, captured in the moment. Bokuto, seemingly exercising all of his self-restraint, slowly leaned in and planted the softest kiss to the side of your cheekbone. The feeling of his lips on your skin shot a tingle through your cheek and you felt heat rise to your face. Slightly flustered, you pivoted.

“Maybe I shouldn’t have agreed then, if it was so obvious I’d say yes!” you teased, resisting the urge to entwine fingers with the pro volleyball player who had come in to visit your coffee shop every day for the past week.

The MSBY Black Jackals were in town for a training camp and extended tournament—you had learned that on the second day an impressive group of four men came into the small, poorly-lit coffee shop. This week your boring barista job had been spiced up by the orders of a tall, masked man with thick, dark curls (a small black coffee); a much shorter man with tangerine-orange hair who was almost half the size of the first (large decaf iced green tea, one sugar); a sharp-looking, clearly athletic man with two-toned hair (medium americano); and the broad-shouldered, golden-eyed sweetheart in front of you. He was by the far the biggest talker of the group even at 6:30am—you caught his attention immediately; he had looked a little dumbstruck, locking eyes with you when he first entered the desolated coffee shop, then quickly shaking his head and zooming over to you at the register with an enthusiastic hi! His friends had trailed in groggily behind him and it wasn’t until they caught up with him that he realized he actually didn’t drink coffee, and that he was only here to be with his friends. Blushing, he had stepped to the side to let them order, leaning against the display case (which you had to clean later) and elbowing the fake blond when his order came across as snippy in his morning attitude. But his eyes never left your face the whole time. You had wondered if he knew he was being so obvious, but he was really cute so…you didn’t mind. Something about the way his hair stood up stock-straight made his bone structure pop and you caught yourself sneaking glances more than once.

You hadn’t talked much to the athletic strangers that first day, not expecting the same group to return the following morning.

it’s a sunday afternoon, and you have the house to yourself to try on the new clothes you’d just bought. the dresses are far from casual, but that just gives you more reason to twirl around in them, putting on a show for yourself in the mirror as you imagine yourself as a movie star or an elegant countess - until a loud knock at the door interrupts your reverie.

rushing to the door, you throw it open to reveal a familiar blonde standing there, her thumb tucked into her belt loop, hip cocked casually to the side. saeko’s eyes glimmer as they take in your appearance.

“well hello,” she drawls, sizing you up, “what do we have here?”

“oh, i—“ you stammer, suddenly remembering your attire, “sorry, i was just trying some stuff on—“

“no worries,” saeko interjects, taking a step closer to make her way inside, “it suits you.”

your cheeks flush with warmth as she grins at you, unsure of what to say as she breezes her way in.

though you had met, you don’t exactly know saeko well. you go to school with her younger brother, but you’ve only had a few conversations with him since he always seems really tense and awkward when speaking to you. you’d seen saeko around too, even spoken to her a few times at social events, but nothing more.

you can’t imagine what could’ve prompted her to show up at your door like this - all you know is that she and her brother share the same fiery stare, and that for some reason it intimidates you more when it’s coming from her.

A pretty good boyfriend though he doesn’t really act like a boyfriend most of the time? If that makes sense?? Like people know you’re dating but you both don’t seem any different

Gives you at least one of his hoodies but he’s definitely not gonna give you his jacket because it’s comfortable and he likes it way too much

Not big on PDA but there are very few times where he’ll randomly hold your hand but act like he’s not doing it

He likes to hang out of at your house whenever you’re hanging out because he knows his older sister would never leave you two alone

I don’t care what anyone says, he likes to cuddle <333 or he likes to lay his head on your lap so you can play with his hair. It’s really relaxing and there’s a 80% chance that he’ll fall asleep

Kunimi doesn’t mind if you go to his games but there’s a chance that Oikawa, Hanamaki, and Matsukawa will tease the hell out of you both so if that happens, he’ll jokingly blame it on you

Tries a bit harder during games though. Just because he doesn’t really want to disappoint you but you really,,, can’t tell that he’s trying more than normal

It’s very rare to get in arguments with him. He just doesn’t see the point in it? Especially if it can lead to the two of you saying something you don’t mean and ruin your relationship

But he will be a little shit at times and make little comments on some things that you do, just to rile you up a little bit

Favorite place to kiss you is on your forhead and the back of your hand. I have no reasoning for this besides he thinks you look really cute after he does it

He occasionally invites you over to stay the night and he will let you have his bed while he’s on the floor. If you’re comfortable enough to share a bed with him, he likes to hold you close to him and rest his head on the top of yours

Be warned though, he is not letting you leave the position until he wants you too because you’re very comfortable and he’s too lazy to get up <3

He will remember almost every little thing about you. Like if you make a comment about something that you do, he’ll remember it and sometimes even comment on it. (for ex: whenever I sneeze it sounds like a damn cat. So he’ll be like “do you still do that??”)

Kunimi is pretty smart, as commented on by Kageyama (idk if he meant game sense though), so he’ll help you study if you need it. He does like to try to distract you though so good luck with that

LOVE, A THING OF WONDERS

Miya Atsumu x G/N Reader

Some might say he was brash, selfish even. But wow, was he a wonder. Miya Atsumu, your best friend since middle school. He’s always amazed you, his extraordinary volleyball skills. Not just that, but his work ethic. He wasn’t always this good at volleyball, and the hard work he put to get there had you wonderstruck. You’ve felt this way since middle school. 

Now you were in your second year of high school, and those feelings haven’t gone away. If anything, they’ve gotten stronger with time, developing from admiration to a full on crush. 

The good thing about having a crush on your best friend is that you know if they have someone they’re crushing on. But that tends to be a double edged sword, since you were also painfully aware of the fact that he didn’t have feelings for anyone….including you. 

Of course, the last thing you would want to do is force yourself onto him, or make the friendship awkward, so you decided to go to Osamu for advice, calling him up on your phone after-school.

“Samu, do you maybe know if ‘Sumu….likes anyone?” You asked, trying to sound unsuspecting.  “If you’re asking him out, just go ahead.” Osamu replied in a deadpan tone.

You didn’t know what kind of response you were expecting from him, but that was not one of the ones that came to your mind.

A bit shocked, you quickly said goodbye and hung up the phone abruptly. 

Running to the Miya’s house next door, the cold air burning your nose, you got there quickly, catching your breath as you knocked on the door. Luckily, Atsumu was the one to answer your knocks. 

“Ya, y/n, it’s late, what are you doing here? Come in, it’s cold” He questioned you, handing you a hoodie of his that he had in hand.  As you two walked, you tell him, “I came because I have something to tell you, and it can’t wait.”

Teasing you, as he always does, he quipped, “Why so serious, are you pregnant or something?” He opened the bedroom door for you.

Sitting down on his bed, he prompted you to do the same. You sat, avoiding his glance and twiddling with your fingers before you finally gained the confidence to say what you came here for.

“Sumu, I like you. I think it’s pretty obvious and ever since we were kids I-” You were about to finish, but he cut you off, grabbing your hand and kissing you. It was short but sweet, feeling like fireworks. 

“Y/n, you could’ve just said something, I thought it was pretty obvious I liked you.” His voice raising a bit, you could hear the excitement in his voice, it was sweet.  So this was the thing you’ve always heard about in books and movies, love. It really is a thing of wonders

he sends you songs that remind him of you or convey the messages he’s always wanted to tell you better than he ever could — at this point he should just create a whole playlist

makes sure to record the programme whenever you won’t be home in time for when that one movie you’ve always wanted to watch finally airs on tv

finishes your assignment essay up for you when you accidentally fall asleep halfway through writing it. he also helps with submitting said essay — now, you can either ask him about it and make fun of him with how much he’s in love with you, which 90% of the time ends with you doing something for him in return because two can play at that game, or you can pretend to not know anything and go on with your day!

would tease you every chance he gets but when someone else decides to tease you the same way, he’d bark at them with no bit of remorse. not literally of course, but he won’t hesitate to do that either if he really has to

the first few times it happened you just played it off. people assume incorrectly all the time, and you honestly couldn’t blame them for assuming that the handsome young man you seem to be around all the time is your boyfriend. besides, it was easy enough to explain that he’s actually just the (incessantly annoying) captain of the boys volleyball team you manage, whom you have no romantic feelings for whatsoever.

that is, until that stopped being entirely true.

you’re not sure when it started, but you began to realize when you noticed that benign misunderstanding starting to fluster you more and more each time. there’s a reason people always mistake you for a couple, after all: kuroo not only dotes on you, but he is shamelessly flirting every moment he’s around you, even when you negate his flattery with exasperation - which just makes you seem even more like an old married couple

of course, being flirty and teasing is just a part of kuroo’s personality, so it’s not like that makes you special, and what might look like fondness towards you is actually just him sucking up to his manager for extra gym time. but, it’s enough to get you thinking about what it would be like if you were really together like that, and once you start thinking about it, you find it hard to stop.

you still try, though, reminding yourself that getting romantically involved with the captain of the team you’re managing is messy and unprofessional, and you don’t even know if he has any feelings like that anyway. this is all just a joke that’s been blown way out of proportion.

at least, that’s what you try to tell yourself when the same convenience store clerk mistakes kuroo for your boyfriend the 3rd time this week.

kuroo tetsuro is independent. growing up with a best friend akin to a hermit, going out and navigating the tokyo streets all by himself was to be expected.

the streets weren’t bustling and crowded as per usual. the sharp scent of sweet crepes and takoyaki from nearby street vendors lining up on the sidewalks was enough to make his empty stomach rumble. but when he shoved his hands into his pockets, his nails softly clinked against the metallic coins, reminding him of his tight budget.

determined, he marched into the bookstore, the smell of old parchment and secondhand books replacing the delicious oily street food. a polite greeting was sound from the register, and kuroo sent a polite smile to acknowledge the shopkeeper before his legs took him to the dusty shelves. calculative hazel eyes scanned the row of books before him and landed on a copy of jane austen’s pride and prejudice.

“is the book really that good?” kuroo mumbled under his breath, noticing how the letters inscribed on the worn spine was fading. nimble fingers softly dusted the cover once he took the book off the shelf.

“it’s a literary masterpiece, ‘ro!” his sister would say, the book on her lap while she tucked raven black hair behind her ear. her dreamy smile in response to his squinting eyes glinted in the warm, golden light of the sunset. “it’s the original love story romcoms can never compare to.”

ANYWAYS! Could I request how the haikyu boys (you can choose who!) would react to their S/O feeling overwhelmed and accidentally blowing up on them/pushing them away?

A few seconds after he left the room you broke down and started crying bc on top of all your stress you now also fear to also loos him too

But as soon as he hears your snobs

He storms back into the room and pulls you into a hug - rocking you back and forth

He‘ll realize what’s wrong after you mutter a soft “I’m sorry it’s just all too much”

And telling you that it’s okay and that everyone has those moments

You two are literally sitting on the kitchen floor at 10pm telling each other how much you love them & that you’d never leave because of something this minor

After you calmed down he puts you - yes he’s dressing you as if you’re a child - in your favorite hoodie of his & puts on your jacket

Now you’re on a walk to the nearest grocery store to get some new pudding and whatever you crave and need to have a relaxing night - which for you will be spent in Iwaizumis tight embrace

But then you hear the water running and you walk to the bathroom just to find him lightening up some candles, in the bathtubs there’s already countless bubbles forming too

“Now strip baby and let me help you relax.”

Yes your mind is clearer after that night

Not only a cleaning the bathroom from all the spilled water is included also NO you also get a massage, chocolates, a marathon of your fav movies, an UNO match and ... bed time

And yes he offers you to let out all your frustration in another way the next time or for him to ... help you relax too

Bokuto:

Bby boy would be so sad when you pushed him away the second he wraps his arms around you

“KOU?!” You screen and rush towards him

He immediately drops everything and opens his arms to wrap himself around you

“I’m so sorry kou! I’m just- it’s just all too much” you mutter into his chest and he pulls you closer into a bone crashing hug

“Nooo I’m sorry, I should have noticed that you aren’t feeling your best and -“

Well ... it’s a constant back and forth with countless I love yous and kisses

“The what?!”

Then he points to the beautiful bouquet laying on the floor

“You got them for me?” You look at him with big eyes

“YES! And this one too!!” He points to the other side - a big plushy owl lays on the floor

You made it to every game. Every one.

Home games, away games, weekend tournaments – you were there. Even at the ones he insisted you didn’t need to come for, you made time for. Fortunately, the Argentinian League helped with your travel fare for the long-distance away games, and you got to watch with joy as your husband racked up trophy after trophy with his team that became more like family than any team he’d played on before. Through your travels and by attending matches, you got to know the other players and their partners fairly well, and despite not knowing anyone else in the country, you felt like you had formed a home here. Argentina had been quite the shift for both of you. Luckily, you’d taken Spanish in high school and helped him learn so the language barrier wasn’t too steep – within a year or so, you were both speaking fairly fluently and you’d landed yourself a marketing job that allowed you to work from home or on-the-go while traveling with the team when you needed to. You couldn’t complain. But you were the happiest when he was home with you.

It overwhelmed you sometimes – when you stopped and thought about it, you couldn’t believe this was your life now. You had uprooted your life in Japan, leaving friends and family to move across the world to chase this man as he chased his dreams. If you had thought of your future five years ago, you never would have expected yourself to end up here. But you were blissfully happy. You and Oikawa were in love and had set up a wonderful little domestic life together. It made you happy just to make him happy, to be the one he came home to from practice.

Every time he came home, he would walk up behind you at the stovetop, wrap his hands around your waist and mold his chest to your back, his chin resting on your shoulder as you cooked. The most blissful smile would spread across your face as you turned in his arms, hooking your elbows over his shoulders and holding him close, his chocolate eyes all you ever cared about.

There were times, though – you couldn’t quite put your finger on it.

“i told you this would happen,” akaashi deadpanned as he entered your bedroom. you lay quietly in bed, wrapped snuggly in a pile of blankets. freeing your arms from your cocoon, you held out your hands in a silently plea for him to join you. he sighed, but against his better judgment, he climbed under the covers. akaashi couldn’t say no to you.

“thank you,” you whispered as he slung an arm around your waist and pulled you into his chest.

“you’re really cold,” he muttered, “do you need something to eat or drink?”

you shook your head in response, perfectly content with your current position. the silence between the two of you was drowned out by the tapping of raindrops on the windows.

“akaashi, i wanna go outs-”

“absolutely not.”

you knew he was right. he was right last time, but you were too determined to enjoy the rain to listen. unwilling to fully concede, you settled on pouting to yourself. akaashi smiled down at you because secretly, he found your stubbornness adorable.

“by the way, if you get me sick, and i can’t go to practice, then you’re the one dealing with emo bokuto,” he sighed.

“i’m sure i can handle it,” you muttered through a grin.

“good luck,” he scoffed playfully. akaashi began twirling your hair around his fingers. “i’d deal with a million emo bokuto’s if it meant i could stay here like this with you forever.”

“i can’t believe we both got sick,” you grumbled.

“it was your idea!” he reminded you. “it was pretty fun though,” he mumbled under his breath.

you loved the rain. you loved the sound it made as it kissed leaves, pavement, and windows. you loved the way it felt when it landed on your skin. you had sat outside during spring showers countless times, so you wanted to share the rain with your boyfriend. bokuto, eager as ever to do anything that he thought would make you happy, practically sprinted outside to enjoy the storm with you.

with his hand around yours, he pulled you out of the house and onto the sidewalk where you could soak up the droplets. unfortunately, within two days, you were both shivering and coughing while huddled under a blanket.

bokuto’s teeth chattered dramatically as he tightened his arms around you.

“you’re warm,” he explained with a lazy grin.

“i wish i felt like it,” you complained.

“well, am i warm?” he asked, hopefulness illuminating his eyes. your heart swelled at bokuto’s sweet expression, and you shuffled even closer to him.

“very warm,” you whispered as an ecstatic smile lit up his face.

“i like this,” bokuto said after a minute of stillness, “i wish we could always get sick at the same time.”
