a/n~ i haven't proofread this (are we surprised??) and this is the first part so pls bare with me as I construct the storyline and the background info!!

-late 2023-

-lili pov-

“Why do you keep doing this to me Jay? I want you to love me, that's all I'm asking and you’re treating our relationship like a chore!” I yell at Jay’s emotionless face hoping for some kind of reaction. 

I can’t take it anymore, the constant cheating, late nights out, the public humiliation is too much now. 

“Say something Jay. ANSWER ME! WHY ARE YOU JUST STANDING THERE?!” I scream, my throat feeling raw. Tears stream down my face with no end in sight. I can't even see his face anymore, sobs take over my body. 

“Lili, I don't know what to say to you. You knew how I felt when you got into this situation.” His voice is steady with no emotion, almost bored as if im nothing. Nothing in his world, and nothing to him. 

“What…?” escapes me, my voice shaking. “Wha-what are you t-talking about?” I question him cautiously. 

“We were never serious.” I stare at him, aghast. “You're the one who turned this into something more.” 

My legs become jelly and I collapse onto the floor. It feels like the ground beneath me has fallen. 

“Are you serious?” I look at him, my heart racing at his words 

“I stayed with you when you disappeared all night with other girls.” My voice comes out shaky and quiet. “I stayed with you even through all the public backlash–” I choke out a sob 

“and all the humiliating situations you've put me in. All while begging you to love me. You used me for two years, when you needed emotional support, when you wanted someone to fuck. All while you broke me over and over. Did that mean nothing to you?!” I let out a broken sob, while he looks uninterested. 

“You’re always too emotional, Lili, it's exhausting. So what? Atleast you know you’re a good fuck.” 

My heart shatters in my chest. I pick myself up off the floor and face him. 

“All I ever did was love you. I never asked for anything back except your love. I kept telling myself that if I tried harder, was prettier, more popular, you'd finally see me and you'd finally love me.” I lift my head and look in his eyes 

“But all you've done is disappoint, and break my heart over and over again.” 

He finally looks me in the eyes. “What you feel is not my fault.” 

I physically flinch, a choked laugh escapes me. “It never is with you.” I look away composing myself. 

“Im done letting you use me. Goodbye Jay.” I turned and left, not looking back while tears streamed down my face. 

-TIME SKIP-

-the start of 2025-

-narrator pov-

It's January 2025 and Blackpink is preparing for their upcoming Deadline tour. The members have been doing mostly solo activities since 2023, so the girls decided to tour in 2025 to lead up to their next comeback: Deadline. While the girls create a lot of buzz individually, together as a group, they are unstoppable and YG knows it. Jennie with her album Ruby has broken new records, Rosé with her beautiful vocals which are showcased on her album, Rosie, Lisa has been unstoppable with Alter Ego and Jisoo has been killing it with Amortage and her numerous acting endeavours. To support the success of their solo albums the girls decided to create a group documentary series in which each season showcases the processes of each girl writing their solo albums, which is almost complete except for one. Lili. 

Lili has been working on healing herself internally and has been on hiatus. After her breakup with Jay Park in 2023, she was broken. His constant belittling and cheating led her to lose herself while trying to find love in a burning relationship. The public backlash about her dating him and the humiliation she faced as he publicly cheated on her numerous times was salt in the wound. So before this tour, she wanted to reinvent herself with her first real solo album and truly show the raw process of what it takes. 

-lili pov-

“Unnie, I know I'll take care of myself, I promise.” I tried to reassure Jisoo unnie even though the words felt fragile leaving me. 

On the other end I hear her sigh softly “Please Lili-yah. You are so powerful, I can't wait to hear your voice” Her voice is warm and reassuring, “Anyway, I'll see you later okay? Love you.” 

“Love you” I echo, before hanging up.

The studio is quiet and still, it makes me think. I clutch my phone closely to my chest, I don't even know if I'm ready for this, but I know I have to be. 

I cannot keep living in this sea of doubt and sadness. Stuck in the same lonely place. 

I swallow hard, shaking the feeling away. I'm better than this. 

Than him. 

My eyes drift back up to the screen in front of me, I stare at the tracklist of my first solo album. 

“This is it, this is me.” I murmur to myself, afraid of my own voice. “Yours Truly.” I say. 

A breath escapes me, one that I didn't realize I was holding in. I smile at the screen, as a little tear escapes my eye.

-the next day-

-lili pov-

I arrive at YG, for a sudden meeting set up by Blackpink’s manager, and my own.

The conference room before me is sterile and cold, sending shivers down my back. I take a seat between Jennie, and Jisoo unnie, Rose and Lisa sitting on the other side of Jennie. 

Suddenly the door opens and four staff along with all of Ateez walks in. I turn to Jisoo with a confused expression. 

“Unnie wha-” I'm cut off by Jennie’s hand squeezing mine. Her expression was weary. 

Across from me sits Song Mingi. I've seen him online and met him during an award show back in 2021, his face looks agitated. 

Before I can deliberate more I hear an executive clear their throat. “Alright, good morning everyone. I'm sure you're wondering why you are all brought here together.” 

I hear Rosie shift in her seat slightly, she quietly speaks up “what is this about?”. I look at the execs for an answer, both KQ and YG execs shift slightly, making a pit form in my stomach. 

I notice only my personal manager and publicist are here, the other girls’ personal teams are not present, making me uneasy. 

“We’ll get straight to the point.” My publicist, Yena, says carefully, giving me a look. I tilt my head slightly, my eyebrows furrowed. 

“Lili, with the release of your first album, the docu-series is almost done, but we've decided to adjust the narrative of your story. Just a bit.” 

Adjust, I hate that word, it makes my skin crawl. 

“Adjust how exactly?” I squint my eyes at Yena. 

“We want to give you good publicity, focus the narrative away from your previous relationship and more on you. On a… happy version of you. This will be very important for Blackpink’s world tour.” 

I look at her confused, wanting her to get to the point. 

Sensing my irritated confusion, my manager, Hyeri, chimes in. “We have decided to announce a relationship.” 

The word ‘relationship’ makes my skin crawl, the girls and I, and all of Ateez shift uncomfortably. 

My heart sinks at the thought of their plan, “A… what?” 

I narrow my eyes at my team. “A relationship between you, Lili, and… Mingi.” 

Before I can react I hear a scoff come from Mingi who is sitting across from me. I feel Jennie grab my shaking hand, squeezing it in support. 

Mingi looks at Yena in disbelief  “You can’t be serious.” He says. His voice is low, lined with anger. 

The whole room stiffens. 

I find my voice, "I'm not doing that.” I sit back in my chair, arms crossed, staring at the table instead of my team. The eyes in the room turn to me as I speak, “I just got out of a relationship, I'm not turning my life into a sell-able storyline, again!” 

Hyeri speaks up, “Lili–” I cut her off “No Hyeri-Unnie. Can't you see that neither of us want this?!” I hear Mingi scoff at my words, “Thanks for stating the obvious princess.” I stare at him agape. 

My hands start to shake in my lap, I feel Jisoo rub my shoulder comfortingly. 

One of the YG executives cuts in, “You guys don't have a choice.” 

Both mine and Mingi’s heads snap to look at them, “Wha-” Mingi cuts me off “This is ridiculous.” He says, quietly but his tone is dangerous. 

“You can't just decide this and casually tell us on a random morning!” My breathing gets heavy. 

“Its already in motion. Media outlets have been contacted, and brands are actively working on campaigns involving both of you.” The KQ exec speaks up, I shake my head at his words, my heart rate rising rapidly. 

“S-so you sold it before telling us?” I look at my team, confusion and hurt written all over my face. 

Mingi scoffs again, shaking his head at the absurdity of the situation. Tears form in my eyes as I stare at Hyeri and Yena. 

I swallow hard, my chest tightening. “This album…is supposed to be a story of me finding myself, being stronger than the past me. I- It's supposed to be something real and true to me.” 

I gesture between me and Mingi, “This, is not real.” 

Mingi looks at me with an intense gaze. I look back at him trying to match his intensity. His eyes stare right through me, my heart is thumping so loud as if it's trying to escape my chest. I see something deeper than disdain in his eyes, almost sorrowful and sad. 

His manager speaks up, breaking through the silence, “It's already been decided. This is in the best interest of both of your careers. The contract will last for a year, you will both sign today.” 

Me and Mingi look at the manager shockingly. “A whole year?!” I was shocked, I expected three months, maybe six. Mingi whispers under his breathe, shaking his head “You’ve gotta be fucking kidding me.” 

The contracts are placed in front of us both with pens, “The contract is simple. Your relationship will be announced and set up as Mingi helping you, Lili, find yourself during your two year hiatus.” I scoff at the executive’s words as he continues, “You will both be expected to go on public dates, post each other on your public social media, and be seen hanging out casually at each other's concerts, stages, music video and photo shoots, and recording sessions. You will also be expected to attend events such as award shows, and fashion shows together, no longer just with your respective groups.” 

As he went on I shook my head, as my heart race skyrocketed once again. Mingi spoke up, his voice laced with venom, “So basically you guys expect us to be seen together almost 24/7?!” Tears fall down my cheeks silently as Jisso and Jennie comfort me. 

I cannot believe what I'm hearing. My heart breaks all over at the thought of being used as a pawn in a corporate game once again. I can't even comprehend the “always together” part. How can they make us do this completely against our will?

I snap out of my thoughts to Jennie softly shaking me, “Lili-yah, what are you thinking?” 

I look at her with tears welled up in my eyes, “Unnie. I'm thinking that all the work I've put into this album, and all the time I spent creating the narrative that I'm happy with myself, is now all gone in vain.” 

I turned back to the executives, “Is this what you wanted? To destroy the work and time I've put into my album” I look between the YG exec and my team.

The exec speaks up, “What we want is to bring good publicity to you and Blackpink. Having an abusive ex who you continuously went back to is not good.” I stare at them agape, and am shocked at the words coming out of their mouth. I shake my head, rolling my eyes. 

“You both need to sign.” The KQ exec states, leaving a bitter taste in my mouth. 

I hesitantly pick up the pen, my hand shaking, barely able to hold it. I sign my name on the dotted line as my heart beats out of my chest, I see Mingi do the same while staring daggers into the paper. His hand is also shaking slightly and I can't help but think it's out of anger and not sadness. 

I hand my contract to Yena and rush out the door not bothering to exchange pleasantries. I hear the girls run out behind me, they're calling out to me but it's all a blur as I rush to my car and speed out of the parking lot. 

Once I reach a secluded park near my house I step out of my car finally allowing myself to let out a breath I didn't know I was holding till now. 

Suddenly all the emotions I’ve been holding in till now all come rushing out. Tears fall down my face in waves. My breathing becomes shallow as I think of all the late nights, and all the blood sweat and tears which hold this album together. 

I hear my phone ring, the tone cutting through the blur of sound around me. It's just Rosie, I want to pick up but I cannot even form coherent sentences so I let it go to voicemail. I start looking up at the sky, noticing the clouds to calm myself. 

Maybe it doesn't have to be so bad. Maybe I'll make a friend?

-back at the YG building-

-narrator pov-

Not long after Lili’s sudden departure, Mingi also stormed out. Both Lili and Mingi left just the execs, 7/8ths of Ateez, 4/5ths of Blackpink, and their respective teams. The executives quickly said goodbye, taking their leave. This left just the idols sitting in silence without their members. 

“So did any of you know about this?" Jisoo asks pointedly at the boys, her face a mask of anger. “I knew. But I didn't know it was with Lili.” Hongjoong speaks up, being the leader, he was told first. 

Lisa scoffs at him “As if. You're the leader, you know everything. How could you not have known?” She asks, squinting her eyes at him as he stays silent.

Jennie turns to Yeosang and Wooyoung, “Yeosang, Wooyoung, you guys have known her for how long? Like 10 years? You seriously didn't know?” 

The two are startled by the sudden questions being directed at them. Wooyoung answers “N-no we didn't know, I swear. Or we would've warned her! Or told them to choose someone else.” He confesses, Yeosang nodding his head at Woo’s words, both boys trying to hide away from Hongjoong’s disapproving eyes.

“Wait, I thought YG approached us?” San speaks up confused, looking between Hongjoong and the girls. 

“They did, but our managers chose who. They wanted Lili since all of the other Blackpink members are in relationships, and YG was pushing Lili anyways.” Hongjoong clarifies. 

“Poor girl, she's worked so hard and now this. And Mingi shouldn't be forced like this either.” Rosie says sadly, shaking her head at the situation. 

“Any idea why they chose Mingi? We know why they wanted Lili but why Mingi?” Jisoo questions Hongjoong, because it seems as if he's the only one who knew the company's plans prior to the meeting. “Well, actually KQ chose him. They said he has a lot of appeal overseas rather than in Korea, so they thought dating Lili, being the nation's Sweetheart, would appeal to the Korean general public.” 

Lisa shook her head at his words. “This is so fucked. I hate how they’re being used.” Jennie pinches the bridge of her nose, squeezing her eyes shut at the absurdity of the situation. 

“If they hate each other this is just going to make them even more miserable. This can be bearable if they become friends.” Jongho voices his opinion, hoping somebody will agree. 

“Yeah, maybe we can make them see this as an opportunity to hang out all the time as friends?” Yunho says, supporting Jongho's view. “

As much as that would be good, they are both stubborn and will resist any attempt at being friends.” Seonghwa reasons. 

“We can't influence them with anything. The second they realize we're trying something, they will resist immediately.” Jisoo states, shaking her head. 

“Yeah, I know Lili, she's not going down without a fight.” Jennie speaks up, supporting Seonghwa’s words. 

Agreeing with Jennie’s words, Hongjoong mutters 

“Neither will Mingi.”
