Back to completing this project after a long hiatus. Been a tough year things only have started to get better. So why not throw myself back in the deep end of microelectronics? L & R buttons now soldered. Resoldered the usb wires with a literal twist
Non dmg-01 switches used
Enable PMW Audio
To enable PMW audio open the boot config with “sudo nano /boot/config.txt”.
At the end of that file, add this line:
dtoverlay=pwm,pin=18,func=2
That will turn GPIO pin 18 into mono audio output.
For stereo through headphones use: dtoverlay=pwm2chan,pin=18,func=2,pin2=13,func2=4
Snes style 4 face button layout. Very pleased with the result and looks great with all buttons in place

To add button holes, I taped and nailed to a plank of wood. I used a 6mm drill bit then sandpapered to increase the hole. I used the left over snes pad and dremelled the button wells out to attach to the inside of the dmg Gameboy shell... The results to follow
The All in one board is truly a thing of beauty
Helder's all in one pcb finally arrived. Current motivation levels = skyhigh
Powering on via powerboost circuit
I wanted to trim the white hdmi adaptor that came with the pi starter kit so I could create a bridge to allow a output to a full size hdmi cable

Trimmed the inner case to fit the pi width ways. It should fit in the cavity of the cartridge slot. (Not going for the cartridge mod) This is because..
Screen Proof of concept! Could do with a bit more sanding but still tired from last night. Need to up catch on zzzz’s
Screen window extended! Used the replacement screen that came with the shell as a guide to create a recess. Not only will the recess give the illusion of being flush against the screen it creates a lip if I add a custom screen
It's a known entity that these cheaper usb clone pads have a smaller button radius if only by a couple mm. To preserve size the Buffalo snes controllers are a good alternative but these I think are fine and can always be replaced.. They are also shallower when they sit in the Gameboy shell
The sacrificial USB pad was opened up. His buttons will live on in the build to give it a snes like feel. I'll try to use the USB and wires and other components to make the most of his untimely death

Replacement dmg-01 has arrived!
Best Screen Resolutions for Libretro Emulation
This is a fantastic primer on how to achieve the best resolution settings per emulator/platform, based on your display. In this case its Libretro running on a Nintendo Wii at 640 x 480. But the maths can be applied to any screen output really. Bonus points for CPS1&2 and Cave/Toaplan setup
