Like I mentioned yesterday here on my blog, I've had bad experiences in the past with sudden influxes from TikTok, so seeing it happen again made me a little nervous. I don't think I was upset so much as reminded of what happened before.

I'm wanting to write a Heian Era Sukuna fic about himel falling in love with a noble woman. I know most fic writers say 'DO IT! WRITE THE THING!' But I'm feeling shy around the idea because this fic makes him very soft & tied to the idea of him interacting with people closely-which is pretty OOC. That and I'm struggling with choosing first person vs second person narration, as the FL is an OC but reading your fic made me fall in love with how immersive first person can be.

I guess I'm looking for a little advice on overthinking if you have any 😩 Thanks again for writing BTS and sharing it with strangers like me. It makes me happy knowing there are people brave enough to do creative things for themselves.

Hey anon! I said this to someone once regarding Sukuna's character, and I found myself thinking about it again yesterday.

If we all wrote him exactly the same way, perfectly in line with how Gege intended, how boring would that be? It would be the same interpretation over and over. Sukuna can be soft. He can be cruel. He can be whatever version of him speaks to the idea you want to explore. That's the beauty of fanfiction.

Though admittedly, I’m not immune to this and I've struggled with those little thoughts that creep in and tell me the way I write him is wrong. Then I think about how much I've enjoyed stretching and pulling his character into new situations, regardless of what canon says. It can be an uncomfortable thing to get over, especially with social media constantly putting opinions in front of us. There will always be someone saying, "Do this," or "I don't like that." If you spend all your time trying to satisfy everyone else's idea of a character, you'll never get to explore your own.

At the end of the day, we write because we have something we want to examine, experiment with, or share. We put those ideas out into the world for strangers to read, and anyone who disagrees with your characterization can either keep reading or quietly click away. Try not to let the possibility of what others might think stop you before you've even begun.

Two years ago, when I started writing, I was completely green and had no real plan beyond a vague idea I wanted to play with. I stayed in my little bubble and had fun with it. These days, I'm intentional about curating my online experience and creative space. I sometimes keep comments turned off because that works best for me. It lets me focus on writing instead of worrying about people wandering into my space with opinions I never asked for.

Hey! :) Since I'll probably finish BTS about a year from now at this rate, I think I'll want to take a few months to rest. I do have ideas for other projects, but nothing on the same scale. More than likely, I'll spend some time writing smaller pieces or exploring settings and experiences that are very different from what I'm working with now.
