I don’t mean in the ‘oh you’re dating Jason’ way.

I mean Jason is possessive of his friends and family because he’s terrified of them leaving him. Someone trying to date his dad? No you can’t do that because then Bruce will forget about him and leave just like his birth parents did. Roy starts seeing someone? That’s great, he’s happy for him….except what if he forgets about him now that he has someone else? What if his friendship is conditional based on if there’s someone else to be around. He knows he’s overreacting, he knows he shouldn’t be so worked up about this, but goddamnit it can’t help it. He can’t stand change either. To his change is bad, entirely and irrevocably bad.

Because he can put on the mask and shoot the guns, but he’s still just a terrified boy who’s so used to losing the people he loves.

Made eye contact with Great Expectations on my desk and thought back to my Jane Austen and Leo Tolstoy at home. Remembers I was going to buy it the day before

Tell me I’m wrong, you can’t. I mean yeah you can but like shhh let me live my life. (Spoiler, they all play piano bc Bruce teaches them when he brings them in.)

Bruce: Piano and that’s literally it but he can also sing. He practices often to de-stress. He plays well and ever since he was a boy people would seek him out to have him play at galas and events.

Dick: Piano, clarinet, and ukulele. He doesn’t practice ever and his instruments are dusty (and probably stuffed into his closet.)

Jason: Piano, electric guitar, and percussion. Like Bruce, he also practices often to de-stress and he’s really good but he doesn’t think he is.

Tim: Piano and trumpet because he thought it would be cool. Playing music just stresses him out more so he stays away but he can be persuaded or bribed into playing.

Damian: Piano, harp, and violin. He plays very well, almost hauntingly beautiful, but he doesn’t like when people listen to him play.

Cass: Piano, violin, and cello. Very classical vibes, she is asked to play at every gala she attends, she’s amazing at playing and makes people cry. (Favoritism? Maybe.)

Steph: Piano and flute. Plays with Cass sometimes. She doesn’t like playing her instruments but she doesn’t hate it either, she’s indifferent.

Bro is so me! Like yes Dami, I too struggle with feeling like I have to prove myself, earn his affections, and live up to my older siblings legacies (except the one that abandoned him)

I don’t know how Bruce would feel about this, and I don’t know how my dad feels about it because I don’t think he knows but I imagine Bruce is constantly trying to show him that he’s his son regardless. Though I think Damian and I may both feel like we need to EARN the right to call our fathers such.

There’s literally no point to this other than a small rant I just love Damian’s character in all his aspects! He and I are scarily similar…

Anyway meet Him!

Bruce: somehow gets roped into being drum major. He doesn’t know how and he doesn’t want to be there but he’s extremely talented and designs perfect team building games. He plays the bari sax and has half the band thirsting over him without his knowledge. People jokingly hate on him because he’s so tall that when they’re behind him they can’t see the drum major.

Dick: wanted to play trumpet, it was his dream since he was a kid. Had his heart broken when he was told he didn’t have the right lip shape for trumpet and so settled for trombone. He uses the spit valve to hook people’s shoe laces and trip them.

Jason: he is in both the band and on the football team, he plays the trumpet and loves to scare people by sneaking up behind them and playing into their back. He’s the quarterback on the football team and is the only reason the team respects the band.

Tim: he is the ONLY nice clarinet, and he’s not even that nice. He’s respectful and isn’t outright rude like the others, he lectures them about shutting up when they don’t have something productive to say. He’s good with the newbies, teaching them to march and reassuring them, but he makes sure they know when they mess up, he doesn’t sugarcoat stuff for them

Cass: band mom; keeps everything in her bag (snacks, water, gloves, deodorant, inhalers, etc.) selfless colorgaurd captain, she gives her letterman and other jackets to her “kids” and holds onto everyone’s stuff for them. She doesn’t let anyone go hungry or thirsty so if they don’t have money she’ll pay for them and then refuse repayment. Everyone calls her mom and on long bus rides you can find her with at least one person asleep on her shoulder. She gives everyone tight hugs and calms them when they’re upset.

Steph: she’s THE chaotic comic relief of the band. She runs around in full uniform and flings herself to her knees to “propose” to half the band. She joined guard because Cass did and ended up falling in love with it. She’s really talented and helps her fellow members easily. She takes over many captain duties without the official title and is seen as co-captain.

Duke: plays the flute. He enjoys it for the most part. The resident hype man that encourages everyone. Everyone loves him and regularly have conversations where they are shitting on people then get to him and change the whole tune, “he’s amazing, I don’t know how anyone could hate him.”

“The End Of Jason Todd” by the smyrk- added by Jason himself to make everyone violently uncomfortable when they ask the name of what’s playing.

“Kryptonite” by 3 doors down- Dick loves to sing this song, Bruce hates it, Dick loves that he hates it,

“Something in the way” by nirvana- added by Bruce, he denies being an edgelord but come on.

“Dragula” by Rob Zombie- added by Cass. No one can catch her in the act but she headbangs to it.

“Bad Girlfriend” by Theory of a Deadman- added by Dick. He laughs maniacally at the opening every time.

“Lonely Day” by System of a Down- added by Bruce on the one year anniversary of Jason’s death. The one song the kids don’t bully him about.

“Something Blue” by VOILÀ- added by Jason, he refuses to give a statement on it.

“Sign of the times” by Harry Styles- added by Steph on the 2 year anniversary of Jason’s death, almost got banned for making half the fam cry on patrol.

“Piano Man” by Billy Joel- only song added by Duke, when asked he says “I just like it” then walks away.

“Orpheus in the Underworld: Cancan” by Georges Bizet- added by Damian, he claims the family needs more “actual” music.

“Wouldn’t you like” by Jorge Rivera-Herrans- added by Tim. He’s a musical lover and I’ll die on this hill.

“Another one bites the dust” by Queen- added by Jason. He’s says it pumps him up for fights. Bruce says he needs to quit shooting people

“Call Your Mom” by Noah Kahan- added by Alfred. When asked he says “they’ll only listen through subconscious messages” we’re still unsure what he meant by that.

“Coming Undone” by Korn- added by Steph, she does “girly” dances to it and everyone applauds.

“Batman” by LPB Poody- added by Tim. He thinks it’s hilarious, Bruce wholeheartedly disagrees.

“Stayin alive” by Bee Gees- added by Damian (even though he denies so) “it’s just a song you can do cpr to” he says rolling his eyes.

“Singles you up” by Jordan Davis- added by Jason. He defends country with his heart and is a lifelong fan.

“Good Riddance” by Green Day- added by Dick only because he beat Cass to it. Uses it to reminisce.
