Captain Marvel (2019) dir. Anna Boden & Ryan Fleck

Carol: No more making fun of me when I misuse dated cultural references, okay? Are we cowabunga on this?
Tony, sighing: Fine, weâre cowabunga.
Yon-Rogg: I wish youâd just admit when youâve made a mistake.
Carol, stirring her tea: I prefer it with salt.

âBrie Larson Wants Marvel to âMove Fasterâ on L.G.B.T.Q. Representationâ
what she says: Iâm fine.
what she means: I just have so many questions about Captain Marvel. Like. Why did the Kree do a blood transfusion on Carol? Is that standard procedure? I mean I know the Kree are racist but are they THAT racist lmao or is it just to help her? Cause the transition from earth to Hala is not an easy one, their atmosphere is 75% nitrogen gas. Plus their planet is bigger, so you weigh more. Which means itâs farther from their sun than Terra is from our sun which means itâs cold. So does the blood transfusion help her body temperature adjust? What about her internal organs? Did they fuck with her lungs too?? Why was it Yonâs blood that was used???? Did he volunteer for that shit? How does that even work? I mean matching HUMAN blood types is hard imagine matching us to alien blood types. Was she sick after? How is she able to just turn her back on Kree lives and culture when their blood is still in her veins? I mean, they have families too. Did she ever go around to orphanages and inquire about herself? Do kree even have orphanages? Or do they just stick you in the military at 5 if your parents die in the war(s) theyâre waging against everyone? Fuck, I want to live on Hala.
Drabble: âMiss Danvers, How Are The Avengers Dealing With the Loss of Agent Romanoff?â
â â â
âmiss danvers?â carol lifted her head up from her lap, meeting eyes with the interviewer. only for a moment she stared until their eye contact broke and she was staring at the wall behind him. a poster hung there. carol made sure to avoid it. sometimes she forgot that on earth heroes were idolized by the public. the reflecting poster board with tonyâs face only seemed to stare back at her condescendingly. maybe poster tony thought she was the one that died. maybe in another universe she was the one on the poster and he was the one sitting in a chair under obnoxiously bright lights having to answer the questions of a middle aged man that she preferred not to have answers to.
â â â
âiâm sorry.â she swallowed. her throat was dry, like she expected. âwhat was the question?â
â â â
âhow are the avengers dealing with the loss of agent romanoff?â his lips curled in a way that carol only assumed was meant to be a comforting smile. she decided then that she hated his smile. she opened her mouth to tell him to stop, but he caught her, and out of his sharp, reptilian lips came: âiâm sure you, of all people, miss her dearly.â
â â â
carol wanted to tell him that he knew nothing of how he missed her. how every night she reached her arm across her sheets, just to imagine that natâs ballerina fingers were dancing nimbly around her palm. how she was exhausted, and weaker than sheâd ever been in her life. how her daily routines only involved wearing natâs jackets and avoiding the training rooms. this man could never imagine how hard it felt for her to have to avoid meetings. and then have to avoid her colleagues to avoid telling them why she was avoiding meetings.
â â â
carol didnât want to tell him that in some moments she believed the ache was too unbearable to carry on. and in those same moments sheâd convinced herself sheâd be happier if she wasnât there.
â â â
âitâs hard to describe the way that i loved natasha.â her voice broke, like she expected.
â â â
her knuckles whitened as she clenched the arm of her chair, subtly turning her face from the camera. she took her time sitting up and readjusting the position of her back. when she relaxed back into the chair and met eyes with her interviewer, she could see the reflection of herself in his pupils. making sure to evade the poster this time, carol removed eye contact.
â â â
âshe loved everything,â a small pressure applied itself to carolâs mouth before she realized it was her own hand. sharp pain called from her elbow resting on the metal arm of the chair. sheâd be a fool though, to move now when she was sure she would shatter.
â â â
after a few moments of recollection her hand descended back onto the arm rest. her eyes followed its movement, so as to make sure it reached its goal to completion.
â â â
âeverything. she loved everything more than anything,â carol chuckled. thinking of the times natasha told her to look out the window as they drove out of the city. that it was a beautiful day, and that they should drive out of the city more often. carol wished sheâd told her that she did see beauty. that she saw it in the strands of her rusted hair and the sharpness of her cheeks.
â â â
âit was impossibly difficult to lose her.â a stray tear danced along the side of carolâs face, her mind gratefully aware that it was the cheek turned away from the camera. âshe loved all things deeply beyond the restrictions of her soul. even in her death she was thinking of others.â
â â â
âitâs impossible to not take her with you. i see her everywhere. i hear her everywhere.â carol smiled. âmostly telling me iâm wrong.â her head tilted as she folded her arms across her chest. âbut sometimes telling me that iâm right.â
â â â
the man smiled with her. carol noted that his smile wasnât actually that awful. he leaned forward then, gripping his notepad firmly between his thumb and forefinger. âand what is she telling you right now?â
â â â
carolâs lips teased upward. her hallucinations didnât come with an on and off switch, but she decided to indulge him anyway.
â â â
âshe says that green tie does nothing for your outfit.â
â â â
immediately after, a small, scolding, (russian) voice in the back of her mind told her to apologize. carol however, just rose from her seat, a smile on her face as she exited the building.
