I swear by my pretty floral bonnet, I will end you.
Persephone (via incorrectgreekmyths)
“My god. Is that your face or a mask?”
“No need to be rude, Elias. It is not my fault you are so easily spooked by little ol’ me. I wonder if it shall be you doing the scaring this Halloween, or if it will be you fleeing from the kiddies this year?”
Helena smiled. This is why she loved Phoebe, always so optimistic and true. “ Indeed, I could not have put it any better myself. The preparations are always the worst, so much practice.” She replied with a spark of mischief in her eye. With a wave of her hand, the tail and horn disappeared. “I am careful. It only gets hard for me to control when I can not control my emotions.” Helena waited patiently as Phoebe sat down next to her. “Oh, yes. I am sorry about that. Then just relax so I can work my magic.” She replied with a wink. Giggling loudly when her friend jumped, it was just as much fun to see her face in awe afterwards. Phoebe’s encouragement was a great boost for her. She took the praise from her friend’s very seriously. “Thank you, Phoebe. It means a lot coming from you.” She replied honestly. “Awh, well I can always hope.” She said as she clicked her fingers twice and in a matters of a second all the smoke evaporated into the small flame on her finger again. “So, what have you been up to lately?”
“But I’m certain the spooking of all those children shall make it all worthwhile in the end. Their faces shall be a picture when they see you with those fiery horns of yours!” Phoebe clasps her hands together, an excitable grin upon her face as she already imagines the looks of horror Helena was certain to receive from the trick. “Ah, then you should be fine. I trust in your control more than any other witch I know. Yet, speaking of emotions... may I enquire as to how things with that fiery canine of yours are going?” She smiles as she brings up the topic, watching her friend with intrigue. The concept of romance was a foreign thing to her, almost, but she enjoyed hearing about it from the red head.Watching Helena’s latest trick, she laughs with her amusement, clearly impressed by the display that meets her eyes. She turns back to Helena when she speaks again, a small smirk crossing her lips. “Do not think much of it, my dear. You are worth more praise than I can provide.” She giggles, blinking as the light outside reaches them again. “Not much. The usual. Brooding upon a tree. Spooking passers by. Although, I did get a new dress, I suppose it has been a few decades so the time was right.” She jokes, or at least she thinks she’s joking. Such things do not seem important enough to remember. “What about you? I trust you have being doing more than working hard, or else your brain shall explode.”

“I don’t have time to deal with your petty problems. It’s Halloween, and there are bigger things at play.”
“How eloquently put. Well, no matter how large your Halloween problems may be, Mr. Mayor, I’m afraid there shall be no wishes granted on my behalf for this year’s festivities. I’m sure there is another lurking around who may do your bidding - hey, have you tried the genie in Christmas Town? Sure, your wish may come wrapped in tinsel, but at least then you can stop moaning and I may return home.”

You’re headed down the wrong path; this is the right one..
“Why is it that whenever anyone says that, I have a tendency not to believe them?”

A small, mischievous smile slid on Thierry’s face. “I guess you could say that. I think I might have somewhat an idea of what you are talking about.” He replied, as he watched her. She was quite a young thing and rather pretty, but not his taste. “Well, I might have some idea but that does not mean that I know the answer.” As she continued to speak, he raised and eyebrow. “All that is beautiful is out to kill? My, then most humans must be deathly afraid of you, Miss.” He replied with a cheeky wink. He apparated and appeared in a flash next to her. “Yes, I am more careful than most.” Thierry looked over to her. “So what brings you to the woods today, Miss?”
She grins down at him, resting her back upon the trunk of the tree, tilting her head up to observe the leaves above. “I thought so. Many know of mischief and darkness in this Town. Especially those who are not quite living.” She tilts her gaze back towards him, her chuckle escaping her with ease. She showed him a mischievous smile, raising an eyebrow in his direction. “You flatter me, Sir. But I do not associate myself with something as trivial as murder. I shall leave that to the others that lurk this place.” When he appears before her, she laughs with amusement, folding her legs to allow room for him upon the branch. “Me? Why, I live here. It is not the most homely of places, but it does provide as much solitude as you may ever like.”
Helena smiled. “Fun, yes. Something that definitely is required during Halloween. I am having my own share of fun and mischief.” She replied with a wink. At her friend’s comment, she let out a chuckle. With a flick of her wrist, a pointed, arrow-headed tail appeared as well which completed the look. “I do not know what you mean.” She said, letting out a giggle. “Alright,” Helena said, motioning her friend over with her hand. “Sit here next to me, and you might want to hold your breath.” She said, her forehead creasing. “Just in case.” A cheeky smile appeared on her face, she clicked her fingers one and a flame sparked immediately. “One. Two. Three.” As she uttered the last word, the flame exploded and turned into smoke which enveloped them. Now, surrounding them was a almost a solid wall of smoke. Helena coughed once as fresh air entered her lungs. “Tada!”
“Of course, what better a day to be crafting your mischief? Plus, the day after Halloween is merely three hundred and sixty four days before the Halloween after, so much mischief must be made in proper preparation then, too.” She giggled at the sight of the tail, too, raising an eyebrow. “Of course not.You best be careful where you put those flames, my dear, I’d hate for there to be an accident.” She jokes with a grin. Then, she follows her friend’s instructions, nearing her as she was instructed. “Hold my breath? Whatever are you planning in that clever brain of yours? But, you should not be so cautious, breathing does not much concern my kind.” Her smile was filled with wild curiosity as she watched Helena,. She cannot help her jump when the smoke began to envelop the pair of them, her smile widening brightly as she turned her head around, trying to catch every sight of it from all angles. “That is marvellous, Helena!” She spoke with excitement, turning back to her friend just as fresh air began to reach them. “You shall be the most terrifying witch on Halloween night. I am truly envious. Your magic is coming along greatly, my friend.”

After a brief moment of hesitation, she allowed her to stay, it was clear she was in need. “Very well. Ask what you wish, my dear.” She took a seat, nodding her head to the empty chair across from her. “There will be nothing to repay, do not worry.”
“Thank you.” The genie murmured with a grateful nod, taking the seat she was indicated to. She hesitated before speaking, pursing her lips together. “I wish... I wish to know something. Something the future may perhaps reveal to you.” She scratches the back of her head, wondering if this perhaps had been a mistake after all. “...Do you believe in curses, Miss?” She asked, watching closely for her reaction. However, she soon chuckled at what she said. “Everything costs something in this town. That I have learned.”
“Sad, but true,” she shrugged. Freya had always been a bit of a loner. She wasn’t a pack animal like werewolves, but she did still enjoy the occasional visitor. They could be a great entertainment. “Don’t worry, it’s still fun either way.” She rose a brow at Phoebe’s next response. “You think you’ve got a bit of scare in you? I’d like to see that.” She’d thought genies were just meant to bend to others’ whims. Maybe she was wrong.
Phoebe smiled, a little more softly. “Yes. But at leat many have found a place where they belong. I am certain there are some who cannot say the same.” She chuckles, tilting her head towards Freya. “I’m sure it is. I hope you earn yourself a good catch tonight.” Her grin turns mischievous at the question, an amused and less than innocent laugh escaping her. “Do not be fooled by looks. I promise you this is not the only form I can take. Genies do learn to be flexible with physicality. It would be boring to wear the same form for too many centuries.” She says, and at Freya’s final sentence she chuckles again. There’s a brief moment of hush, before the smoke rises up around Phoebe’s ankles spreading to cover her body. The smoke died down, but it was not a girl who remained in place, but the form of a viper which lunged towards Freya in a sharp, quick motion. Fangs bared and eyes narrowed, the snake made a move towards the werepanther’s neck, but purposefully dodged its target in the end, landing on the grass behind her. There, it was instead the girl that reappeared, legs folded as she sat on the grass, her grin broad as she glanced up at the other woman. “See?”

He saw her climbing down the tree infront of him, a faint and uncertain smile forming as he realized his words had atleast caused her to return, but whether or not she would help him was yet to be determined. Learning that the genie had vowed to never use her powers again caused him to worry only the slightest bit of what sort of price others had to pay in the past. Could they truly have been bad enough to cause this genie to be so adamant about never using her powers? He couldn’t afford to think on it for too long because if he did he knew he’d turn back around as the genie had suggested. His better judgement knew that perhaps he did have more to lose in being here than if he walked away, but his desperation coaxed him to stay.
“I am a man of science, and a man of reason, yes, but above all I am human and I wish to stay that way until I can find a way to return to the world where I belong. I thought science could help me find a way to be rid of the monster that began to grow in me, but it hasn’t. You see, I created an elixir to stop the transformation, but it all it did was give the demon a mind of his own and a mind separate from mine, but he’s still living in here with me. We can’t be in control at the same time, but if I let myself dwell in bad thoughts he comes out, makes me do things out of my will, bad things, things that often get me into trouble and lose the few friends I have. I’m always fighting to keep out, but he will never be content until he has full control, and I’m afraid he’s much stronger than I am. Soon enough I won’t be able to fight him anymore and I will cease to be. I wish to have no need to fight anymore. I wish to be rid of this demon forever.”
Phoebe listens to the man, with worry visible in the furrowing of her eyebrows, the folding of her arms. “So, science has failed you, and now you turn to me.” She shakes her head, turning away from him as she began to pace, hands running through a few of the plants which grew in this part of the woods. She always felt calmer around nature, and she needed to focus upon this calm now, needed to think. No matter how foolish she knew she was being, there was something about that man’s pleading which prevented her from walking away. Perhaps it would not go wrong this time, she tried to tell herself. It had been so long since she had granted a wish - maybe she had waited long enough, maybe she could make this man truly happy? Wasn’t that what she had always wanted to do? But, things had never worked out that way, and she was most probably a fool for thinking they ever would. This was a place for monsters after all, monsters did not create happiness.
It takes a while before she faces him again. She opens her mouth to speak, then closes it again, asking a question she had not intended to ask. “What... What is your name?” She speaks with a tilt of her head, the first small showing of a smile. Then it is gone again as her face becomes more sober, speaking what needed to be said. “I am sorry for the situation you have found yourself in. I truly am. But, you must understand, the wishes I cast never happen so simply. I cannot know what will happen.” She bites her lip, running a hand through her hair. She locks eyes with him, refusing to look away as she spoke again. “If you deem yourself worthy of breaking an oath that was made after years of misery, then you must accept all the consequences that come with it. I take no responsibility for whatever fate befalls you by my hand. It is your choice, and yours alone.” She knows that won’t be true, though. She always felt guilty. No matter how much she warned and protested - whenever it went wrong, she always felt the pain as much as her victims.

Beverly watched as the girl shifted nervously in her seat but chose to remain silent as the other told what she wanted. Or what she didn’t. Being given the choice, Beverly frowned slightly but nodded nonetheless. “Well, I can certainly do that for you, Phoebe, but do you wish to maybe have a say in the color? I can choose the fabric. Perhaps something purple? Or blue?” She smiled encouragingly before tilting her head at the other. “Are…I don’t mean to pry, but are you alright, Phoebe?”
Phoebe’s eyes trail away from the window, focusing back upon Beverly. She smiles faintly, an apology woven into her expression as she tries to maintain her attention upon the task at hand. “Well, I do like purple.” She says, nodding her head. “See, I said you were better at the colour choosing than I.” She attempts some light humour, before her question causes her to pause. “I... Yes, I am fine.” Her first answer is blunt, but the genie sighs softly, shrugging a shoulder. “I am sorry. It’s just... a long time since I have been in town for so long. I am a bit nervous about seeing familiar faces.” She shows a nervous smile, biting her lip. “Do not mind me. I am being foolish.”

One could practically hear his hopeful spirit shattering when she told him that his search had been in vain. He tried everything already, anything one could possibly think of to do in his situation and this was his last and final hope. “Let the werewolves eat me then. Anything would be better than the fate you’re leaving me to if you do not help me,” he insisted, but she was already gone.
He looked around for any signs of her, but saw nothing. “Wait! Please don’t go!” he shouted, following to plead his case to the dark forest in the off chance that she might have been listening wherever it is that she disappeared to. “You don’t understand! There is nothing left for me to do. If you don’t help me, I am afraid I’ll finally cease to be, and I can’t have that. I can’t have him take over my life. I understand magic has a price but whatever it is I am willing to pay it!” He stood there for a few moments, his eyes scanning the trees, waiting for any sort of response and growing more helpless as the seconds ticked by. “Please…. don’t go.”
She listened, she listened carefully. If she had been wiser, she’d have fled and not listened to his words. For as he spoke, she heard his pain, and cursed herself for her own sorry heart. He did not seem like many of those who sought her out - he did not call out for wealth, nor for the heart of a woman he could not obtain. Something about his desires were different, more desperate, and she could not help the pity which grew in the pit of her stomach. It was with a soft sigh, that she finally moved again. She did not magic her reappearance this time, not wishing to scare as she had before. This time she climbed down the tree slowly, dropping down the branches until she eventually landed upon the grass in front of him. Her gaze was steady upon his face, watching him closely.
>
“You do not understand these prices you speak of.” She says, voice barely above a whisper. “You do not understand what I have done to so many like you, who seek my help. I have learnt there are often fates worse than being torn apart by werewolves.” The genie glances up at the sky, pursing her lips together. “I made a vow never to use my powers again, long ago. I do not break my vows easily.” She shakes her head, dark hair swaying. “You do not seem a man to rely upon magic. You seem a man of reason. Of logic. If you are truly smart you would be leaving now, no matter how desperate you are.” Her voice is firmer, her eyes narrowing upon him, her attempt to seem as fearful as she wished to be. Her hopes being that she would scare him off, before she asked the question she needed to be answered. “But... I will listen to you. You say you will cease to be. Tell me... what is it that troubles you?”

“Pardon me but have you ever seen this child before?” she asked the person in front of her. “I found him in the woods. I’m trying to find the parents.”
Phoebe blinks at the sight of the baby, eyeing it curiously. “I have never seen a human so small before.” She says, crinkling her nose, before she focused upon the fairy’s question rather than the bundle within her arms. “No parents that are any good leave their child in woods filled with werewolves and vampires. Perhaps someone was using him as a bait. Anyway, he is most likely better off without them. I am certain there is some monster who’ll give him a home back in town. He does not belong here in the woods, that is for certain. That’s not if you want him to get any bigger, at least.”
Helena’s smoke immediately disappeared as her concentration was broken by her friend. She let out a giggle. “You make it sounds like I am up to no good. I am always up to good things.” She said, batting her long lashes as she manipulated flames to create devil’s horn on top of her head. She let out a giggle as she motioned Phoebe over. “I have been working on something really interesting. It is for disappearing or creating a diversion, would you like to see it?”
“Of course you are. But that does not mean you are not allowed your fun, my dear. And sometimes fun means mischief.” She chuckled at the sight of the flaming devil horns, tilting her head with amusement. “You should keep those around, they suit you.” She remarked with a wide smile as she took a step closer to the witch, nearing the spot where she motioned to. “Now, that does sound interesting, indeed. I am all eyes and ears. Please, let me see what you can conjure up this time.” She said with a grin. Phoebe may no longer use her magic, but she did feel a similar joy when she watched Helena perform her tricks. The girl had a gift with the flame, it was most certainly something to be marvelled at.

“If you’re here to know your future, you will have to come back tomorrow. I’m afraid I am closed for the day, there is something that requires my attention…”
“Please. I would not come to you unless I was desperate. There is just... a few things I must know.” Phoebe despised the desperation in her own voice, as she approached the banshee, a wide eyed look upon her face. “I am certain I can find my ways to repay you for your troubles.”
Freya smiled a cat-like grin upon seeing she’d taken the woman by surprise. She enjoyed a good startle now and again. “It seems many people are beginning to enjoy taking a stroll in these woods now.” She shrugged, “What I’m currently hunting is meant to be scared it’s no skin of my nose if they’re even more paranoid. People have been using these woods to practice their haunting and scaring for a couple weeks now. If you’re really here for a stroll, you’re in for a thrill.”
“Yes. I suppose they have become a home to many. It’s sometimes easier to be yourself amongst the trees.” She grins at Freya’s response, tilting her head with intrigue. “I see. Well, then, I am sorry if I did not scare them a little more for you. I’m sure it makes the catch all the sweeter when they’re running scared for the treeline.” The grin widens, mischievously. “Oh, I do love a good scare. Though who says it shall not be me doing the scaring?”
