The World According to Me

"It's storming," he almost whimpered as lightning struck somewhere very close. Your heart broke at the pitiful sound of his voice. Pulling the covers back you patted the spot beside you.

"Come on Loki, there's plenty of room for you."

Loki crawled under the blankets, tucking himself as closely to you as possible. The feel of his cool skin against yours was a comfort as you leaned back against the pillows. He laid his head on your chest taking a deep breath. "Thank you," he sighed, bringing his arm to loosely drape around your waist. Storms always seemed to have this affect on him and it did nothing bt sadden you. You brought your hand up gently brushing the hair back from his forehead.

"You're safe. I promise," you whispered back to him.

Loki looked up with wide green eyes as though no one had ever offered him a gentle reassurance. Before you were even aware of what was happening, Loki carefully pulled your lips to his. The kiss was tender as though he could think of no words to express how he felt in that moment. Your's and Loki's relationship had never been anything of the romantic nature. Not that you ignored the fact that he was gorgeous and had a bad habit of walking around half naked. That was impossible not to notice.

Your mind continued to ramble as the kiss showed no signs of ending. In fact, his long fingers tangled in your hair, deepening it. Slowly he pulled back with a goran, as though it pained him to part from your lips. His eyes remained closed as he sat up a bit. Taking a deep breath his emerald orbs opened, glistening with unshed tears.

"From the moment you found me bruised and bleeding on your doorstep, you have done nothing but show me kindness that I don't deserve. Never in all my years has eanyone done that. Except for my mother," he took a ragged breath. "You've made it impossible for me to not fall in love with you. I've fought it tooth and nail every moment of every day."

His declaration left you speechless, your eyes wide in disbelief. "I understand if you don't feel the same way. In fact it may even make it all easier. Because then I could pretend that I never said any of this. I mean, I'm a god, you're a mortal. I'm ... I'm not sure I could take watching you age and wither while I remain unchanged." His eyes searched your face with a near look of pleading. "By the Norns, will you please say something so I'll stop babbling," he offered a timid smile.

How could you respond to something like this? Of course the thought had crossed your mind on more than once occasion. What would it be like to kiss him? To wake in his arms? The whole 'what if' game. You loved his company. There was no doubt about that. Conversations were never dull and he always managed to make you laugh.
