By day they shoot photos for advertisements and magazines, but Jojakim Cortis and Adrian Sonderegger’s side project is downright mind-blowing.
In their studio, the duo painstakingly recreate miniature versions of history’s most iconic photographs.

India’s Widows in Colour
“Indian tradition says a widow will spend her life in seclusion, mourning her husband and avoiding public gatherings. If she comes to a wedding, she is thought to bring bad luck to the family. If she comes to a birth ceremony, she brings bad luck to the baby. After her husband dies, she will wear only white, Hinduism’s colour of mourning. As much as she can, she will live a life without colour.
So when Holi arrives, the festival of spring and India’s riotous annual celebration of colour, when friends and strangers shower one another with coloured water and bright powders, she is supposed to disappear into the background.
Then there is Holi at the Meera Sahabhagini Widows Ashram, a shelter for widows abandoned by their families, in this city of temples where widows have long been dropped off and forgotten. In that ashram, hundreds of widows gathered Tuesday [March 3, 2015] to experience what they are not supposed to: Joy.
Organized by an Indian aid agency, Sulabh International, the gathering was a way to let the women celebrate their lives, and to show that losing a husband doesn’t mean losing one’s life. Colour was everywhere. On the women’s faces, in their hair, coating their clothes. For once, white was hard to find.”

Ridley’s The New Kaleidoscope Range Who’s game for some good old-fashioned fun? Over the weekend, I grab coffee at my favorite local shop and went across to check out the bontique shops. Ridley’s House of Novelties vintage box got my attention. The illustrations really capture the dime-store/magic-shop gestalt of these products. I was also impressed with how far they were willing to go with the faux-vintage background color of these boxes. Personally, I’m attracted to the time-worn look of old retail boxes that you find in thrift shops, but I wonder if some stores might be put off by packages that looks almost shop-worn even though they’re brand new. Original packaging designed by Ridley’s. New Kaleidoscope edition, designed by Wild & Wolf, London, UK Ridley’s Kaleidoscope is a super range of traditional games, toys and jokes, all enclosed in 1960’s inspired colorful vintage style packaging. Alfred Eisenstaedt’s picture of a mother and child in the wasteland of 1945 Hiroshima is not a political or a philosophical or an ideological photograph. It simply, quietly commands us to pay attention.

“I imagine what design might look like if designers were still called projectors, as they were in the eighteenth century when the term was commonly used to describe inventors, architects and city planners. Mapping concepts of projection borrowed from literature, psychology, physics and cartography onto design offers a new and intriguing way to think about the discipline.”
My name is Bret Hansen and I am Now Projector. The name encapsulates my philosophy and provides a conceptual frame for a rich creative process. The ‘now’ keeps me rooted firmly in the present moment where the action (always) is. The word projector, with its sci-fi ring is a hopeful nod to the future. It suggests an unknown trajectory (think projectile), fuels an exploratory mindset and ensures my work is hyper-contemporary. But the term is also a bridge to the past. Before there were movie projectors, there were human projectors* — entrepreneurs who planned and launched design-based projects.
