Orion Pax never wanted to let Sentinel off with a slap on the servo. He was a naive idealist. He likely genuinely expected Sentinel to lose his trial and be put in prison for his crimes.

And although D-16 killing Sentinel may have been justified, he is still wrong about using brute violence and intimidation to achieve peace and equality. That doesn’t mean violence is never the answer. Even Optimus/Orion uses violence to fight against tyranny. But it’s still wrong to view violence and dominance over others as the only path to peace.

Both characters were very young. Younger than many humans, at under 50 cycles old. Orion Pax not wanting to kill Sentinel is not meant to imply he has bad morals. He was naive and more idealistic than D-16. And he didn’t try to stop D-16 because he valued Sentinel’s life over others. He saw what his friend was turning into and wanted him to stop before he set a horrible example in front of thousands of very vulnerable bots who had just had just learned their entire lives were a lie. Interpreting it as Orion defending Sentinel out of empathy for a dictator is simplifying OP as a character too much imo.

I imagine he fights extremely recklessly and without care for his own safety, because that’s how Link fights when he lets his own strength cloud his judgement. Except Dark Link isn’t as susceptible to injury and is thus still hard to kill.
