this is such a silly thing to say because people HAVE boycott the oscars, not just during this year's ceremony (Hayao Miyazaki has never attended the oscars, including last night's ceremony, the first time as a act of protest against the US invasion of Iraq) but also in the past. Marlon Brando famously boycott the oscars in 1972.... You are not obligated to attend a 3 hour award show, especially when there is a chance that you might not win and is run by a racist institution that does nothing but ignore anybody that isn't white, refusing the reward them for their talent until they decide to hand them a honorary oscar.(if they can be bothered) If they were really about it they would've literally stayed at home!

In addition to the fact that people have boycotted the oscars, also, boycotting is supposed to be against something substantial. Something that is a sacrifice. If you "boycott" some shit that don't matter, that's not a damn boycott. If you don't want or need the product or service, that is not a boycott. Boycotts are intended to make statements that entities that don't notice you necessarily will notice the absence. They'll notice the loss. Asking for any boycott is definitely audacious. But if it wasn't, it wouldn't be worth boycotting.
