Mike Sterling in Phantom of the Opera

He was the original Raoul in the UK Tour in Manchester 1993-1995, where his Christines were Lisa Hull, Josie Walker, Nikki Ankara and Sarah Ryan. He then appeared in the West End production in May 1997, playing Raoul here until March 1999. His Christines here were Myrra Malmberg, Josie Walker, Zoë Curlett, Shona Lindsay, Sarah Ryan, Jill Washington and Fay Richardson (u/s).

At the cast change in March 1999 he became the Phantom, a role he played for the rest of the year until Scott Davies took over in December. His Christines at this point was Meredith Braun, Charlotte Page and Colleen Patrice Taylor (u/s). He then re-joined the UK Tour, but this time as the Phantom, for the 1999-2000 stop in Edinburgh, and the 2000 stop in Southampton. Christine here were Deborah Dutcher, Joanne Pullen and Amy Nuttall (u/s). All in all he was in Phantom for some 7 years!

Was listening to Holly Anne Hull on the West End Frame podcast (which I do recommend listening to because she is lovely and talks about Les Miz and Phantom) and she said that the chandelier of course did not drop because they used the Restaged because their new one was not ready.

What she did say was that they did originally plan to do the (presumably) original chandelier fall in theatres that would allow it, because not all theatres have the capability to do it. And since she had a lot of contact with Cameron and Andrew during the rehearsals for the tour, I assume she would know what they were planning on doing.

So, this does give me a tad bit of hope that maybe the new chandelier that they introduce for London will do… something? Something hopefully more than the Restaged one does, and actually rise up and fall down to the stage.
