Mugshots of civil rights activist “Freedom Riders” in Jackson, Mississippi during the summer of 1961.
My favorite part of these is the “bitch, you really think you’ve seen the last of me?” smirk on so many of their faces.
AND THEY DIDN’T! at least one of these people I recognized as still fighting the fight today.

Day 10 - Favorite Lyric: Essex Dogs
I remember thinking murder in the car Watching dogs somersault through sprinklers on tiny lawns I remember the graffiti We are your children coming in with spray cans of paint I remember the sunsets and the plains of cement And the way the night just seemed to turn the colour of orangeade In this town, cellular phones are hot with teens In this town, we all go to terminal pubs It helps us sweat out those angry bits of life From this town, the English army grind their teeth into glass You know you’ll get a kicking tonight The smell of puke and piss The smell of puke and piss on your stilettos Here comes that panic attack My heart stops… and then it starts Give me a drink I’ll drink your round I take you round the pole It’s cold up here (I can see the universe waiting by a minibus) You’ll catch flu Or you’ll catch the city Either way, you’ll catch flu Or you’ll catch the city

I’m immensely glad that Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs hasn’t actually gone “extinct” despite a very prolonged silence. Orlando Higginbottom has finally returned with a new song after all those years as a favorite electronica, UKgarage, and indietronica artist of ours. The singer songwriter and producer surprises us with a toned down and melancholic sound on Leave A Light On. It’s a song that kicks off like James Blake, less like some of TEED’s earlier dance propulsive, quirky jaunting classics. But it’s a riveting and splendorous affair nonetheless, particularly once you’ve paced your way into its magnificent core, where it crescendos and blooms into a spacey spiraling, kaleidoscopic spinning polyphonic dazzler, on which TEED waxes heartfelt and wistful. Leave A Light On is a song that folds you deep into its world, an utterly intoxicating opus that TEED has released independently. I’m hoping it means much more TEED is coming our way.
Watching old episodes of Parts Unknown and being struck by little moments like these. What an extraordinary tragedy.
Only now am I really learning what a badass he was and how much he stood by his values. Why my girlfriends loved him, his music connections aside.
Amazon is the fucking evil megacorporation from every near-future cyberpunk story they have warehouses full of wage slaves that can’t even take a piss or fall behind their ridiculous expectations without getting fired on the spot while their CEO is nearing trillionare status day by day while quite literally making local governments pay them to determine which city they install their next slave warehouse in and now their wiretap HAL 9000 bots that are in millions of houses all over the country are doing evil laughs and reading off names of cemeteries and funeral homes completely unprompted I know anger at amazon in general is very outrage-of-the-day basic entry level american leftist reaction but Jesus fucking Christ people
