There are about 250 species of Camellia and this one (Camellia japonica) has over 30,00 cultivars. I pass this beautiful shrub on my daily walk and give silent thanks to gardener who planted it. Incidentally, one member of the genus, Camellia sinensis, is famous for the drink we make from it’s leaves: tea.
