         Hating Jason Todd was easy. Punch a few walls ‘till your knuckles bleed, throw yourself into dangerous situations, turn the anger back at yourself, rinse, and repeat for a few weeks until you forget. Except Roy isn’t going to forget. That’s where things become difficult again. He’s sure as hell not going to forgive – so what’s the grey area here?           Step one: get the hell out of Gotham. “ Step two: pretend that you can actually fly solo without getting yourself killed. So far, so good, Roy. ” He kicks at an empty soda can along his walk, hands shoved in his pockets.  “ Talking to yourself? Eh, there could be worse side effects, right? ” A lot worse.          Another week like this and he’d probably be asking himself who he was kidding – pretending gets you nowhere. But he doesn’t have another week like this. He stops short in his step, frowning, waits one, two more seconds, and continues walking. He pauses again, raising a brow and sighing. He doesn’t even turn around, but he’s no stranger to the unmistakeable sound of footfall. Paranoid? Maybe.  “ But then I guess it’s not really talking to myself if someone else is listening. Gig’s up, dude! ” 

         She sighs as she picks up another piece of pizza (really they should have gotten another pie) and bites down right through a piece of pepperoni. “ It’s not a sense it’s the news – ” with the remote still in her hand she gestures to the TV that is very conveniently not playing the news right now. “ Or my sister. That happens a lot too. My sister will call me and I…have to go. ”

          If he takes her out does that mean he’ll stop asking questions? Or could they just order pizza or cheap Chinese and make out and she can keep trying to distract him. Though that’s obviously not working. She audibly sighs, reaching her hand out to take his even as he settles the hat on his head. She has money. She could pay. But he probably won’t let her.

         “ I dunno – what’s the best Seattle food? ” She chuckles, reaching out to grasp his hand with both of hers as they approach the door. She has her wallet in her back pocket – her phone in her bag that’s still thrown across the floor. She’s pretty sure it’s ringing, but it’s much nicer to focus on his heartbeat instead.

                  “ I mean….there’s always pizza. ”

         He won’t deny that his mind is slightly eased as she takes his hand. He’s glad that he’s not facing her in that moment for her to see the grin creep onto his face or the slight flush in his cheeks. He’d be easier to distract if it weren’t for how much he was worrying about her. He can’t help that she touched a soft spot. 

“It is a jail break, there’s a woman sitting in Blackgate because she was in the wrong place at the wrong time. Her last appeal was denied, the governor isn’t going to pardon her. I want to break her out.” she told him “I need help to do it.” So she was feeling a bit altruistic. It didn’t hurt that the woman had been a teenage friend of Selina’s. “What do you want? I can pay you - or I can return a favor. Having me owe you a favor is a pretty big deal. I can get you about… anything you want.”
