Battle for Nothing

Good question! I haven’t watched many object shows besides the Main 2 but as someone w/ some animation knowledge I can offer these educated guesses:

1 – Experience: Most folks starting object shows tend to be on the younger side, so they’re still in the early stages of their artistic journey. Budding artists tend to mimic the style of things they like b/c they haven’t yet developed the skills/thought processes to purposefully modify this base style & make it their own. And that’s perfectly fine! It’s all part of the learning process ^^

2 – Priorities & Available Resources: The creator may be more interested in the writing/story-telling aspects of making a show and not be as concerned with how it looks. For someone who just wants to get started telling a story, using pre-established production methods means less prep time than starting from the ground up.

3 – Time Constraints: Many object shows have viewer participation in the form of voting. This kind of demands that eps be made on a somewhat regular basis b/c viewers want to see the results of their input & what happens next in a timely manner. For efficiency’s sake it’s important to keep things simple, especially if you have no budget or production crew.

If you do have multiple people working on visuals, it still pays to keep things simple b/c crew members will have an easier time maintaining stylistic unity w/ each other.

4 – Signaling: At the end of the day, object show creators want what they make to be seen by others. Obviously, their target audience would include people who already watch other object shows. When a BFB fan sees a video thumbnail in their recommendations for something that looks similar to BFB, they’ll be more inclined to click & check it out b/c it resembles something they already know they like.
