has anyone figured out how to turn off the thing where you love your pet so much it slides inexorably into grief-borrowing

i've searched every combination of words imaginable and i still can't find that gif of the german star trek parody where gay spock is quickly drinking coffee and smoking freaking out PLEASE send it to me i need it urgently

making this term has done numbers for me being able to concisely express how i feel abt something. like. its not charizard’s fault i feel this way, im sure i’d feel normal abt it if it was stripped of all this over commodification, but i cannot. hence the name

I was honestly a bit nervous to draw and post this one, because it's such a deep rooted and genuine issue I struggle with. It's a thing I wish could be fixed in some way, but I feel pretty comforted it resonated with so many others too

I do think it’s important to recognize that even beloved pets are mortal and will age and die & that many illnesses associated with aging can constitute “natural causes” and I do think there’s a bit of weirdness in American culture that encourages people to deny that until the last possible moment in a way that’s unhealthy lol

Just as I think it’s important to try and be responsible about vet bills etc & have a certain amount of money set aside for that if you can I do that a stipulation of pet ownership should be “can I watch this animal decline in a way that is timely for its species without being so upset by it that I bankrupt myself in order to prolong the inevitable” idk man

When I rushed my cat to the ER vet on her last day, I could see VISIBLE relief from the vet when I agreed to put her down instead of spending thousands to give ME another few weeks with her.
