Amity yelped as she was whisked away by the witch. What craziness did she have planned for her. She heard the word lawbreaking, and immediately shot up panicked.

“Ohhh no no no no no I can’t break any laws. Mom will…” wait. There was no Congress here. No elections. No overbearing mother basically threatening her to be on good behavior and the perfect child.

She could actually feel kinda safe. Maybe even break the mold a bit. But. She was still nervous.

Luz stopped pulling when Amity started freaking a little bit, but when she looked back, she saw that Amity had gained a considering, if still nervous, look. Luz turned around, eyebrows pressed together. “Does your mom not approve of going too wild? My mom doesn’t like me going all out with being wild with my magic, but it feels super restricting to stick with just one type of magic.”

“Back home, she’s a very high ranking government official. And she needs to be selected to be sent back to her job every two years. Apparently when I get into trouble it makes her look bad. So I have to keep quiet, be almost invisible and do as I’m told to keep her career in tact.

The human continued her plain expression as she finished the tour with the Hexside student. Of all the people she got paired with it was the bubbliest, most upbeat girl in all of the witch school. Not that she hated that personality… it was just a lot to deal with considering all of her pressures.

“Oh. Yeah. It was. Super.” She said flatly. She was in awe of this world, but she still felt nervous about home. Would her mother discover she was missing? How would she react. How many classes was she missing?

Luz’s face faltered slightly, but she didn’t know what the Human was worried about. She plastered on another smile. “Well, now that we’re done touring here… We should hang out!” Luz spread her arms out with a grin. “Willow and Viney are busy, so it’s the perfect time for a bit of…” Luz leaned forward, raising her eyebrows up and down. “Lawbreaking.”

By which she meant ‘just casually mixing magic in the safety of her own home’, but Luz loved the thought of the Emperor quaking in his boots whenever someone even dared to break a minor bit of his bullshit rules. Such an imposing emperor, crying in his bed because a small child across town was making a plant that could heal whenever you bit off a leaf or dumped an oracle ball into a potion pot.

Did Luz tell Amity about the evil Emperor? Meh, wasn’t important. Surely the human universe wasn’t that different, right?

A year ago, if someone had told Luz that there would be a human in town, she’d ask you if she was dreaming about Azura again. There hasn’t been a human in Bonesborough for… hundreds of years? If she remembered that one dusty textbook right.
