Back when he was in disguise as a beggar and Penelope came down to meet him, he had told her that he met Odysseus a few years ago and welcomed him into his home. To test this, she asked him what clothes Odysseus was wearing when they had met. He described him wearing a purple cloak and a golden brooch of a hound chasing and pinning a fawn.
