The first thing that really Got Me about Belmod was that he’s a clown- which is cool on its own of course, but he is genetically a clown, from a race of clown aliens, which is SO fucking neat, especially in a xenobiology sense. Like, he looks humanoid, but he very much is not a human, and that’s so fun to play around with. I can’t count how many headcanons I have based on that alone- like how he can’t really eat anything that isn’t carnival fare, or how different types of clowns (pierrot, acrobat, party clowns, etc) are closer to cultures on his home planet than professions, or what his home planet is like as a whole- it’s just. It’s fun! There’s a lot of creative potential there.

After that, it was how cool universe 11 is! I adore the pride troopers. I love the whole Power of Teamwork and Friendship thing they have going on. And, like, as much as Belmod doesn’t really care about teamwork, he really, really likes the Pride Troopers too!!! He’s a big softie- which, I know, sounds like bullshit, but I promise it’s true. The actions of the Pride Troopers “send his heart aflutter” according to Toei’s official profile of him. He’s a peaceful god!! He’s cordial (I’d even say friendly) with his kai!!! This man is GENTLE. He doesn't even really seem like GoD material!

And on that note. I do not think he was Marcarita’s first choice for the position. I am of the opinion that Gicchin was in training to be the GoD until he died, and they kind of had to scramble to find a replacement. (This headcanon mostly comes from the fact that Gicchin seems to be wearing something that resembles an angel outfit in the few shots we see of him) and I think THAT is ALSO a very fun part of his character to play around with.

AND SPEAKING OF HIM AND GICCHIN. Holy Shit. A man and his closest friend have a falling out and they never get to reconcile before the closest friend dies- from the thing that you had a falling out over! Gicchin’s fatal flaw was that he was willing to endure anything for the good of the people he cared about- his team, which, in universe 11, seems to be a word interchangeable with close friends, if not family. Teamwork was important to him, and it wasn’t important to Belmod, and Belmod got the last laugh about it, even if it was in the worst way possible. Plus some of the dialogue in the ToP in the manga seems to imply that Belmod wanted to try and bring him back to life at some point, which. Kinda breaks my heart a little.

(yeah ok that’s mostly speculation. But speculating on them is SO MUCH FUN please give it a try. Also side note I do think they had A Thing but that’s for another post)

Which all bleeds into how he interacts with Jiren, who is pretty much his nephew, for lack of a better word. He is the last connection he has to the man he was never able to say sorry to. I choose to believe that’s a not insignificant part of why Jiren gets away with so much irt Belmod- Belmod cares about him, and he clearly still feels shitty about all the things with Gicchin, so Jiren can call him a motherfucker or whatever. It’s fine.

And do not get me STARTED on him and Marcarita. Everyone kind of knows about the original draft of their introduction in the manga, where they were being very sweet and domestic and such, but no one talks about how it looks like they were in a very cozy looking house?? Like they had really Settled Down and Made a Life For Themselves. Or the fact that in the final version of that page, Belmod ends up erasing a member of his harem when she threatens Marcarita.

Marcarita is a billion times stronger than him. She is an angel. He did not have to do that. Belmod is just IN LOVE WITH HER and this was a GESTURE. And that sets a tone for their entire relationship (One Hundred Million Days of Pining and all that) which is ALSO SO MUCH FUN TO THINK ABOUT. I’m a sucker for that forbidden love/ Not Talking About It Or Else/ awkward dancing around each other that they have.

(Side note. Belmod is retiring. He is Giving Up His Godhood. Him and Marcarita couldn’t be together because he’s a God of Destruction. Do u see where I am going with this)
