“I pace, I’m a pacer. If I’m working out my plan of attack for court, or debating where we ought to order dinner from or just simply trying to figure out my schedule for the coming week, I pace. It keeps my brain on its toes. That and my hands often find themselves settled on my hips when I’m either trying to process any new information or deciding whether or not to punch you in the face.”

V - Big dreams?

“Aren’t all my dreams big? Everything from flooring a jury with a closing line to becoming the muse of a life-sized Peggy cake made by Steve Rogers. You shouldn’t ever diminish any of your goals, they’re all big and they’re all important. I suppose at the moment my biggest dream should be to relax. Focus more on the things, on the people I have in my life that aren’t tied to my work which is a big dream I live out every other day.”

The familiar voice pulled her attention from the newspaper in front of her as a smile crept on to her face. “Peggy.” Dottie beamed at her, pushing her glasses up a little. “Oh come now, you know I don’t watch those videos. I find a nice hot bath to be most effective, if I’m honest.”

"Dorothy?" Peggy stared for a moment too long, hearing back the obvious surprise in her too-high tone before she coughed a little, swiftly brushing that off. "Sorry, I didn't see you there. Ah, yes of course you would choose bubbles over screaming huskies which, when put like that, sounds awfully fair. I'll take it under suggestion, thank you."

Despite her now long-standing rivalry with Virginia Potts, Hope didn’t always try to be a complete bitch to the other lawyers around town.  Even if they did seem to be opposing counsel more often than not.   Or maybe it was less not being a bitch and more complicated.  Like playing the friend card with the others would somehow keep Virginia Potts more in line.  "I think that depends on the question,“ Hope murmured when she heard Peggy Carter’s voice.  "I tend to go for Faces of Walmart or crazy customer freak outs myself, but to each their own.”

"Ah, also quality choices when it comes to passing the time. I'll be sure to add them both to my vacation list, it'll offer a well needed break in between all the snacking and pestering everyone's favourite local baker." Despite Hope van Dyne and Pepper's long-standing rivalry, Peggy did her best to stay neutral especially since you never knew when you'd have to call upon a fellow powerhouse. A smile spread across her face as she turned to give Hope her full attention. "Hey. How have you been, Hope? I hope crime has been moderate to interesting."

Tony had been spinning on the chair across from Peggy, bored out of his mind. He had stopped by mostly to annoy her, but time had only made her more impervious to his annoying little brother antics. ❝Everyone knows it’s animals doing human things… you know water skiing, playing the piano, etcetera❞ he said scrolling through his phone, ❝look at this cat and dog duo playing the piano…❞ Tony said handing Peggy the phone.

"I'm not sure you can speak for every single---," she started before Tony handed the phone over to her and he was, of course, correct. She opened then promptly closed her mouth unable to fight off the sort of grin that only came from watching two of the most talented musicians of our time. Shaking her head, Peggy flashed him a grin, "Alright so you might have point there. But look at them, they're playing the piano in sync. The best of friends, breaking all the cat-dog stereotypes. This is, dare I say, iconic. Oh, wait wait... What about when cats talk to each other? Or when they're faced with their greatest enemy, cucumbers- those are also pretty great." She paused however before setting his phone down, her hands clapping together. "But, let's not waste the day spinning around here. Let's head out into the sunshine."

“Vines?” Steve asked, eyebrows knitting in confusion. “Like… the plant? I don’t understand.”

“But I brought you lunch, so explain it to me over cheese and pickle sandwiches. The recipe says they’re supposed to be really posh. Just like you.”

"Oh Steve, darling, we really must get you on the internet sometime. It'll change your life."

Basics;

Name: Margaret “Peggy” Carter Age: 34 Occupation: Lawyer Location: Deerfield, Illinois

Biography;

Despite having spent the majority of her life in America, Peggy Carter stubbornly held onto the English accent her parents read and sang and encouraged her in during her childhood. Such is an example of just how stubborn she is as a person really. Once Peggy sets her mind to something, she does it and she does it magnificently. One of her all time fave past-times is proving other people wrong (one of her others is teaming pantsuits with the right shade of lipsticks).

She's always been protective of the underdog. Of anyone who isn't believed in or lifted up by those around them. With her parents being besties with the Starks, she pretty much filled the spot of "protective big sister" to Tony Stark and she's punched more than a few idiots who thought it wise to mess with him. She's always considered him family and that sentiment extends onto the beautifully inspiring Pepper too.

All her life she's only ever wanted to help people. To do something proactive and meaningful and make damn sure her voice is being heard. She aced law school and she dug her heels into every case she could get her hands on after. Again, Peggy always supported the underdog and her parents made sure she never had to worry about money so pro-bono work is always on the table for her. She likes to take cases that matter, ones that allow her to stand up for those who aren't being listened to. She's the big dog with the sharp teeth who'll make damn sure no one talks over her client.

Peggy also took every opportunity to travel for her work. She's a work-a-holic, it's not a secret and so when she finally decided to take some time off, the place to go was a no-brainer. She'd go to where her nearest and dearest were and that is Deerfield. She might not be very good at being on vacation but she's doing her best.  

Connections;

Steve Rogers - always and forever her first love and biggest sweetheart.

Bucky Barnes - Steve’s BFF who always thought he was god’s gift to women. But okay maybe she has a secret soft spot for him, whatever.

Dottie Underwood - her one exception to the “take meaningful cases” rule. She’s a boujie brat who Peggy might have accidentally made out with that one time but SH.

Tony Stark - basically her lil bro, do not mess with him.

And that was the moment when Pepper realized her mistake. It was the accent really, distinctive and crisp in a way she hadn’t heard it for years. But she’d definitely heard it before. Not to mention she’d seen young Peggy Carter’s portrait about a hundred times since meeting Tony. “Oh my–Peg–Ms. Carter! You don’t know me. I’m Pepper. I work here. Well, not here, but I…I’m sorry, this is kind of crazy for me.” She paused for a moment, staring at the woman in front of her. She’d known people came through the rift–people who were supposed to be dead–but she hadn’t known someone so influential was among them. “I did mean Tony Stark, yes. I’m, well, he’s my fiance.” But that wasn’t relevant to this conversation, so she set down the files she was carrying and extended a hand. “It’s very nice to officially meet you, Ms. Carter. I was well acquainted with your….older self. Please, if you have any questions, don’t hesitate to ask me. I’m always here. I mean it, I pretty much never leave this building anymore,” She chuckled.

“Pepper,” she said the name carefully, gently even as if it were something precious. Peggy couldn't help but stare and smile. Look at her. The tenacity, the way she had taken charge of even this bizarre (and it must have been for her) conversation with such ease and it was obvious she was, indeed, the boss. Peggy felt a burst of pride and affection even, for her. They didn't know each other. Well, that was increasingly complicated mind you but even so, Peggy still felt as if there was something there. She'd allowed too much silence to stretch between saying her name and Pepper holding out her hand and so she immediately sprang back to life, taking it in her grasp. “No, please, the pleasure is all mine. I have heard not nearly enough about you but I do know that a certain someone has lucked out entirely,” she smiled, joking only a little. How impressive they both were, Pepper and Tony. “Sorry, this must be completely bizarre for you. I know that I... Well, I'm not exactly going to run into my older self, am I? Thank you though, truly. I imagine that everything might just fall apart if you weren't around to keep it upright.”  

Oh, well. You died, too, actually, so we’re kind of even now.

Because I have the feeling most people would get a little squeamish about going through Captain America’s underwear drawer and I’m absolutely using that to my advantage. You joke, but you know Bucky’s always had a thing for you. And everyone has a thing for Sam.

[He slides a hand in her hair, kisses her temple] This isn’t - there isn’t really a good plan, when it comes to this guy. He’s like nothing we’ve ever faced before. …but, listen, maybe I will come back. Maybe this is all just in case, you know? Just in case.

I'm sorry, are we keeping score now?

Actually I think most people would be more than happy to rifle through Captain America's underwear drawer. There may even be several blogs dedicated to such a thing. Although, I suppose everyone has more pressing things to worry about these days. [ Rolls her eyes ] Stop being cute.

“And how would you like me to be, Peggy dear?”

“Quiet. Generally speaking that is but also specifically about---,” but she found herself cut off. Of course saying it out-loud wasn’t going to make it any less real just as keeping the words under wraps wouldn’t make it any less real. Still, she opted for avoidance. “About anything you may or may not know about my personal life from 1951.”

I’m gonna say some stuff, Carter. It’s important that you display some of those world-renowned British manners and save your yelling for the end.

There’s a spare key to the apartment at the bottom of my underwear drawer. There’s an address book of people I like at the back of the wardrobe. Natasha has all the passwords to my bank accounts, and if you can’t get ahold of her, call Pepper Potts. There’s some personal stuff in my lock box - it’d all be yours. And Bucky’s and Sam’s, if they come back and if they want it. They’d get to live here, too, which makes it a little crowded, but I think - well. I dunno. I think it’d be good, for you to have them around.

... You do know that just because I say my 'pleases' and 'thank yous' it doesn't mean I won't punch that beard clean off your face, right? Just checking because I know for a fact that you are not giving me the 'I'm going to die, Peggy' speech, again. That is, this has happened more than once. And not that long ago actually, for me so forgive me if I don't keep my voice down to a decibel what's left of the neighbours would appreciate.

Tony was determined to make things right with Steve. He had even practiced what to say, maybe start the whole thing with ‘if we had fought together as you suggested’ or something along those lines. In truth it had not been Tony not wanting to fight alongside Steve and the others, quite the contrary, none of the them had seen what Tony had seen. Steve’s shield torn in half, every single one of them dead, and at the center, Thanos. Tony had tried everything in his power so that the vision didn’t come true. And he had failed. He could only hope Steve would understand. Pepper had given him Steve’s current address and Tony had been pacing across the street for a good ten minutes now. 

Just as he crossed the street he noticed a familiar face. Except it was looking much younger than in any of Tony’s memories. How could it be possible? Peggy Carter had died. She had died in her old age. Why was she just strolling through the streets of New York. ❝Aunt Peggy❞ Tony said in almost a whisper, his voice full of disbelief. ❝Aunt Peggy❞ he called again and started to chase after her. Tony picked up the pace, ❝Agent Carter❞ he said dodging a bike messenger when he stepped down the sidewalk to be able to catch up with maybe-aunt-peggy. Finally he managed to catch up, he walked past her, turned around and came face to face to the Peggy in his father’s old photographs. ❝Oh fu- fudge❞ he said in surprise, ❝it’s really you… Aunt Peggy❞ Tony said reaching for a hug. 

Peggy immediately turned to attention when he shouted 'Agent Carter' after her because she had been trained to do so but also because she was more than sure that she was no one's aunt. At least, not in this decade. That she knew of... When he moved in for could have been one of two things (a hug, or an attack), Peggy was moments away from jamming her stiletto into his foot and bringing her knee up to smash his face. That would have just been for starters too and then, eventually yes, she would have asked her questions but my god- it was as if she was seeing a ghost. Actually, perhaps 'ghost' wasn't the right word considering that for her, she'd only just seen Howard Stark in the flesh a short while ago. Of course there were differences, subtle and striking all at once but Peggy just knew somehow. How could she not have?

The point was, she had been blindsided long enough that he was able to reach for a hug and receive one more or less. Peggy's brow furrowed over his shoulder as she slowly, purposefully brought her hands to gently rest on his back for a moment. He must have been Howard's son. Tony Stark. Tony Stark who was so much smarter than his father and so much better and he loved so fiercely he'd given a lovely, smart and tenacious woman a ring (not a bracelet). All that was information she had been given by Steve, information she had found out herself but Peggy had been reluctant to dig too deeply into her own life just yet. However, it was obvious that they shared something more meaningful than Tony simple being her friend and colleague's son. She pulled back carefully, looking him over with confusion and just a teeny bit of awe.

"Sorry, I'm uh, a little behind here. A lot, actually since we haven't technically...met yet," she let out on a breath, sure she wasn't explaining properly. "I mean, from my time, you aren't around yet. If that makes sense? And I honestly almost tazed you when came shouting over here but if you're calling me 'aunt Peggy' and you're Howard's son then- then..." Gosh, why did everything suddenly feel so charged? Emotionally that was. She blinked a couple of times for good measure before trying again. "Were you looking for Steve? I have a spare key to his place. He's not in right now but he's assured me I can have free reign over all the tea given that I was the one who went out and bought it."

“Do you think there’s any way to make a cross-dimensional phone call in this world? My dad’s going to be super pissed if I just never come home.”

“Well dear, if you can order a Captain America snowglobe from the internet then I believe you can do anything. What’s the trouble?”
