Internation Lynx Day
Laat een reactie achter / endangered animals, Eurasian lynx illustration, Lynx, lynx conservation Europe, wildlife conservation art, wildlife illustration artist / Door admin
Today is International Lynx Day! Â
I am deeply honored to have my work featured by the European Wilderness Society, highlighting the role of art in wildlife conservation.
For me, art is more than just a visual; itâs a bridge. Through my âEndangered animal artâ series, I aim to make the invisible visible. By combining intricate mandala patterns and detailed doodle forms, I want to capture the soul and strength of the Lynx , a creature that moves in silence and often goes unnoticed.
My goal is to invite you to slow down, observe with patience, and recognize that these animals are not just subjects; they are living beings with their own dignity and place in this world.

NL vs AI Motion graphics Template Design
Meet DPG Media, the titans of news and journalism in Holland. With a stellar reputation as one of the countryâs biggest and most trusted media brands, DPG Media is synonymous with delivering top-notch news, both in print and online. Their audience is a savvy mix of news junkies, culture enthusiasts, and tech aficionados, all eagerly consuming the latest stories and updates. With their recent venture into the digital realm through a new platform called Play, DPG Media was ready to elevate their game and engage their audience in a fresh, exciting way.
DPG Mediaâs big idea was to launch âNL vs AI,â a series set to dive into the fascinating clash between Dutch culture and artificial intelligence. They needed an animation that would serve as the perfect introduction to this engaging series and a motion design template to keep the series looking sharp and consistent. The goal was clear: make the series pop on the new Play platform, drawing in viewers and keeping them hooked.
We kicked off the project by diving deep into DPG Mediaâs vision for âNL vs AI.â We researched the series concept thoroughly, understanding the blend of Dutch cultural elements with cutting-edge tech. Our goal was to create a style that was both tech-savvy and distinctly Dutch. We scoured references and decided on a font with a techy, research-oriented vibe, perfect for setting the tone.
Starting with a script, we crafted a concise and compelling introduction, aiming to capture the essence of the series in just a few seconds. The storyboard came next, mapping out the visual flow and ensuring we hit all the right notes. Graphics were created using Photoshop and Illustrator, with a color scheme that incorporated Dutch elements like tulips and bikes, juxtaposed with sleek tech visuals.
Animation was done in After Effects, where we had some fun experimenting with high-tech effects. A humorous attempt at a Dutch cheese rolling into a tech world was quickly sidelined for something more on-point. We ultimately focused on a visual clash of Dutch elements with tech themes, resulting in a sophisticated yet accessible animation. Our mock-up template included everything from lower thirds to transitions, allowing editors to tweak and adjust with ease.
The final product was a comprehensive motion design template that hit all the right notes. We designed an engaging intro animation that captured the essence of âNL vs AIâ and created a versatile template for the series. This included a fully animated lower third, transitions, and a mock-up template that editors could use for dynamic episode titles. Every detail was crafted to ensure consistency and visual appeal across the series.

How a Buddha Cat Helped Launch a Wellness App: A PDB Animation Case Study
Setting the Stage
Our client is a wellness brand that's all about helping people live healthier, more mindful lives through their online platform. Think of it as a digital sanctuary for those looking to unwind, get centered, and focus on their mental well-being.
Their customers?
A mix of people from all walks of life, all with one thing in common: the desire for balance in an often chaotic world. The app is designed to offer everything from guided meditations to health advice, all wrapped in a calm, inviting atmosphere.
When they reached out to us, their goal was simple: create an animation that could introduce users to their appâs meditation features and help them get into the groove of using it regularly. Meditation, after all, isnât the most visually dynamic thing ,you usually close your eyes and focus inward. But they needed a way to bring the practice to life in a way that felt natural and engaging for users. Enter us, ready to roll up our sleeves and tackle the challenge.
The Big Why
The timing was critical , the client was about to launch their new app and needed something that would not only introduce users to the core features but also boost engagement right out of the gate. They wanted to kick things off with a guided meditation video, featuring a character that users could connect with and follow along. It had to be both calming and functional, embodying the essence of what the app was all about: mindfulness, relaxation, and balance.
Thatâs where we came in. We knew this animation needed to serve as a tool to pull users in, keep them engaged, and ultimately help them get the most out of the app.
The character they wanted?
A Buddha Cat. Sounds quirky, but it was a great fit. The cat would guide users through the meditation, giving them something visual to latch onto during their practice. And it had to be just right: simple, approachable, and in harmony with the clientâs brand and values.
Making Magic Happen
The first thing we tackled was the character design.
We didnât just settle on one look; we created several variations of the Buddha Cat, playing with different poses, facial expressions, and styles until we landed on one that felt perfect.
It was important to us that this cat felt approachable, almost like a wise, furry friend who was there to guide you, not overwhelm you.
Once the cat was locked down, we moved on to the storyboarding phase.
With a voiceover in hand, we worked closely with the client to identify the key movements and moments that would help the user follow the meditation practice.
This wasnât about making a flashy animation; it was about ensuring the catâs movements were clear, gentle, and in sync with the meditative rhythm.
At this point, we brought in a freelancer (our first time hiring outside help, by the way!) to tackle the actual animation. With her expertise, we broke down the movements into manageable segments.
We kept the communication flowing, feedback and revisions were constant, ensuring everything fit the clientâs needs and vision.
The final touch?
We made sure the animation was perfectly synced to the voiceover, so the timing felt seamless and natural.
In the end, we created a guided meditation animation that was simple, calming, and effective. The Buddha Cat took center stage, gently guiding users through their meditation practice with smooth, subtle movements. Nothing too flashy, just the cat, the calm environment, and the user. The animation was designed to be easy on the eyes, not over-the-top, so users could focus on the meditation rather than being distracted by the visuals.
We also made sure the style and design matched the appâs overall vibe: minimalistic, serene, and calming. The environment, the character, and even the animation were all crafted to feel as natural as possible, just like a peaceful meditation session. It wasnât about the animation being the star; it was about the practice taking center stage, with the cat guiding the way.
Once the animation was launched, it didnât take long for the client to start seeing results. The video became an integral part of their appâs onboarding process, with users engaging more with the app and returning for regular meditation sessions.
The Buddha Cat didnât just guide the meditation , it helped create a sense of connection and calm for users. It made the app feel more approachable, welcoming, and fun.
By aligning the animation with the clientâs brand values, mindfulness, simplicity, and ease, we helped them boost engagement and connect with their audience in a meaningful way.
The video didnât just serve as a marketing tool;
it reinforced their brand and made the app feel more alive. And as for the client, they got exactly what they needed to help showcase their appâs features and bring in new users.
The animation helped launch their vision, and it worked perfectly within their overall marketing campaign.
The Siberian Lynx: A Ghost in the Forest Facing a Fragile Future
Beneath the dense canopy of Russia's taiga forests and the chilly expanses of its Far East, a majestic and elusive predator roams: the Siberian Lynx (Lynx lynx wrangeli). With its tufted ears, piercing gaze, and dense, dappled coat, this magnificent wild cat is a symbol of the untamed wilderness. However, behind its captivating beauty lies a harsh reality: the Siberian Lynx is facing an increasingly fragile future, its existence hanging by a thread.
While some populations of Eurasian lynx are stable, the Siberian subspecies is particularly vulnerable, often considered endangered in specific regions due to a devastating combination of threats. The primary culprit is habitat loss and fragmentation. As human development encroaches further into their ancient hunting grounds, forests are cleared for logging, agriculture, and infrastructure. This not only destroys their homes but also breaks up vital corridors, isolating populations and making it harder for them to find food and mates.
Another significant threat is poaching. Despite legal protections, the Siberian Lynx is hunted for its luxurious fur and sometimes for sport, or in retaliation for perceived livestock predation. This illegal trade puts immense pressure on already dwindling numbers. Additionally, their primary prey, such as hares and deer, are also affected by human activities and climate change, leading to a scarcity of food resources for these apex predators.
The long-term survival of the Siberian Lynx depends on urgent and concerted conservation efforts. Without dedicated intervention, this incredible creature, a vital part of its ecosystem, could disappear from our planet forever. By understanding their plight, we can collectively contribute to their protection.
Letâs go to my process
The illustration was hand-drawn first, then digitized and fully vectorized in Adobe Illustrator (using the mirror tool for that satisfying symmetry!). The entire process, from ink and texture to final digital lines, is designed to look fantastic on posters, tees, and all kinds of merch.
The result after vectorize the drawing in Adobe Illustrator :
Lets make a painting
I decided to push it a bit further than just make a vector illustration , as if that wasnât enough , right? I wanted to make an painting out of it .
i use transfer paper to transfer my drawing to the canvas .
Having the lines on the canvas , i started to paint in the colors , with Acrylic paint .
I used #liquitex as my acrylic paint for this .
