Summary:

Iida sits next to him outside the bath, holding his hand tightly—as tightly as he had when he caught Izuku out of the sky just a few hours ago.

“You can sleep if you want,” Iida says quietly. “I will make sure you don’t fall in.” Iida’s smile is smaller than his brother’s, more subdued than All Might’s, but it is just as steady. Perhaps more genuine. A quiet I am here, I won’t let you drown that Izuku wishes he could inspire in others.

Trusting his friends to keep him safe, he lays his head against the wall of the bath, but he doesn’t fall asleep.

Across the room, Kirishima catches his eye and gives him a thumbs-up and a grin. Izuku watches him blankly, wishing he could return the smile, but he just can’t.

Basically, I thought the end to the Dark Deku arc was too lighthearted, and I wanted more of a tender, angsty beat about recovering through burnout.
